You'd be surprised how little the average person knows about the auto industry. I used to be. Now I'm not at all surprised when people don't know who owns which brands.

Now that production is set for August, wouldn't that put them right in line with every other 2011 vehicle set to launch?

Re: U.S. Launch of Cruze Delayed

4 month delay, how did this happen? The vehicle has already been launched successfully in markets world wide. Can't the parts or the Cruze itself be imported from overseas until this situation has been resolved?

Which DeltaII will reach the market first, the Buick Verano or the Chevrolet Cruze?

You have absolutely no idea how correct you are... And I don't mean news as in fanfare to the public. GM seems to forget about OTHER manufacturers vehicle cycles.

They see, wow this is gonna be 18% better in XXX areas than the last model, we think it's even better than the... CIVIC for instance.

Yeah GM, but dolts, you forget you are competing with the NEXT generation civic, what determines that is the length of overlap in the development cycle.

Very unfortunate news.

Missing spring/summer season is going to hurt.

Re: U.S. Launch of Cruze Delayed

This is exactly why I have become more critical of GM. Is this "New GM" really that much different from the "Old GM"? To me at least, and this is from a Pontiac guy, the Cruze is the best looking new car that GM has on the docket for a new car launch. Just imagine a Zeta based Impala with the front end styling of the Cruze, that would look good. I don't know what this delay is all about, probably supplier problems, but the Cruze's biggest problem to me at least is the downright pitiful engines it has. It needs a hybrid option, it needs a diesel, it needs one gasoline engine capable of 35+ mpg on the highway. But it needs an SS option with 300+hp, a turbo 4 would be OK, but I'd love a small V-6 with this type power. 0-60 in about 5.1 seconds in this car would be sweet.

I wonder what other kinds of delays we may be seeing....is this a one time deal or the sign of a trend to come.
Same here and that gets me into trouble sometimes, but the only way anybody i know that knows about the Cruze, is because it told them.

You're right, he doesn't. Nobody knows whether the Cruze will be a hit or not. To assume you know how it will sell before it's even been launched is a little ridiculous.

Re: U.S. Launch of Cruze Delayed

Don't get me wrong, I really like the Cruze, and in the market for a brand new car about two months ago it would have been at the top of my list. The problem was I had already had two cobalts, and I was getting sick of them not that they were bad cars but I was ready for something else. I'm pro GM so don't take me for being negative, but I just don't see the Cruze being game changing when I liked the Civic which is three or four years old in design, I don't know just my two cents but I'm sure Honda and Toyota have something in the works.. and we are going to get a car that is already two years old?

Re: U.S. Launch of Cruze Delayed

they are blaming it on "supplier issues", but i think this is really a case of someone at GM dropping the ball (likely a whole team of engineers).

the supplier is of course responsible for delivering parts, but as an engineer you have to be ALL OVER the suppliers, or they will be late and the parts will be crap. some low level GM engineer will probably become the scapegoat for this and lose his job.

If the handling of the new Equinox is any indication, they will be keeping the Cruze fresh. Let's just say Ford isn't the only American automaker that has MCE's planned every 2-3 years.

It was designed to compete with the Civic and Mazda3.

Except that Honda is already talking about the next generation Civic and Mazda will be in their second production year.

This is pathetic.
