Re: Malibu Rated #1 in Initial Quality

GM indeed has been taking steps in the right direction. Nothing shows the character of a nation like its cars so I can't help but to feel a connection with what ultimately represents me on the world stage.

The CTS means that we, yes Americans, can produce an automobile to take on Europe's dusty grandness. The bold American invader. Maybe we are not so dumb after all.

The Malibu? An amazing vehicle that combines thorough design with an obtainable price tag. I said wow the whole time seated. The import killer? I say yes. Maybe it isn't practical but I'd like to see a coupe (LOL)!

Cobalt SS/TC? Put it on a track and you'll find out its worth. 0-60 in less than 6 seconds for 23 grand? Really! They let the engineers breathe free and fired those pesky bean counters!

Should I even start talking about the new Camaro? Scorching hot. Godlike.

Many people say that the G5 was a mistake. How come I get compliments on mine daily? It looks sleek and sexy. I went through great pains to ensure that it was stealth gray GT with 5-speed and sun/sound package. I went 60 miles and my dealer went 300 to get it for me. I would accept no other deal. No problems with the car ever. Women can't look away. Great performance and mileage. The stock stereo will almost run you out. I love the thing.

Still, my idea of heaven is a black on black G6 coupe with a 6 speed manual. I want a stereo to at least rival the one in the G5. It's 2008 and I want MP3 compatibility. Must have. Sophisticated rims, not overly chromed bling stuff. A jet black SR71 for the road. Only crimson red gauges to interrupt the phantom stealth interior. I want nothing to corrupt its fluid sophisticated exterior. I like the G8 but don't really want one. Too high-profile and Australian for my taste. I just want my void, mysterious G6 interstate shuttle craft.

No problem. I grew up with imports because I had no other choice. Cheap cheap. Everyone said that I "made the right decision" because somehow imports were supposed to be more reliable. Years went by and vehicles came and went. My ex-girlfriend has a Cavalier with 120K that she regularly ran completely dry of oil and tranny fluid out of neglect (dry dipsticks I'm dead serious). It leaks but darn if it doesn't still run! Another ex had a white Thunderbird with the front end smashed up that had nearly 200K on it. Still runs to this day. Run them into the friggin ground and they start up and get you to point B every time. I got this over and over.

I take care of my stuff, but it was my "ultra reliable" imports that were not so great. Myth busted.

On a positive note, I sure learned how to work on cars!

I smartened up!

My Domestic car has been good to me. Other people's have too. I'll keep buying them.

I am in the same boat as you, grew up with Honda's. Not bad vehicles, but the reliability is way overhyped. My father put at least $5k into his Accord keeping things in working order.

Still have the Accord and it's never been back to the dealer. I think it has 18K on it now... so far it's depreciated less than $2K a year.

Just for fun, I just went to cars.com and did a search on Tacomas between 1998 and 2001, with under 60K miles on them... only 43 in the whole US, for starters... and I sold my 2001 Prerunner a year ago for less than what most of them are still advertised at.

Go take a HIKE YOU IMPORT LOVING FAN BOY. I can't stand it when people like you join GMI and start ranting on with all of your "Fan Boy Import Loving Crap" !!!!! You import guys are just mad because GM has brought a car to the market (Chevy Malibu) that SPANKS THE HONDA Accord, Toyota Camry, and other competitors when it comes to interior and exterior design and build quality.

Go talk that RUBBISH SOMEWHERE ELSE! I'm an automotive technician and my family members used to own a Toyota Camry and my parents used to own a COROLLA AND THEY Were A PIECE OF CRAP IN TERMS OF BUILD QUALITY and reliability. Either way it's my job to repair automobiles so I can't really complain when it comes to fixing them.

That is great for the new Malibu! I read somewhere that the 1994 Malibu also was one of the most reliable and durable cars out there.

Yeah well there are some people who don't want to comprehend that due to the fact that they have some kind of preconceived thought that "Imports" are better than "Domestics" which is obviously not true. The new Chevy Malibu is a solid car from GM that deserves tons of sales and awards.

I love that car, but we may not be able to get one as it sounds like according to they may not be in business much longer. That would be sad, I hope that doesn't happen.

Bankruptcy doesn't mean the end, even if it happens.

Rick Wagner is talking like it will be the end of GM.

I will believe it when I see it, I think he will lose his position as head of GM before that happens.
