GM's Transformers "Roll Out"!

It's opening day for the ultimate GM product placement movie where GM cars are not just driven by stars, they ARE the stars! Camaro, Solstice, Topkick and H2 are ready for some Summer Big Screen Action!

Check out the related links below and discuss the Michael Bay Transformers Hollywood Blockbuster here at GMInsidenews.com.

Re: GM's Transformers "Roll Out"!

Now imagine if Chevy actually had a Camaro that someone could walk into the dealer and buy RIGHT NOW!!!

Any buzz from the movie or impulse buying is going to be long gone by the time the Camaro is finally here. Too bad really.

Exactly, by summers end this movie hype will be long gone, and even more forgotten by the time the Camaro is showrooms.

Can you even put a preorder or deposit down on one yet?

Nope. But I'm sure the dealers are willing to take money to be the first buyer from their dealership.

Re: GM's Transformers "Roll Out"!

Saw the movie at 8pm last night. All I can say......HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Product placement everywhere, and the movie freakin rocked. You really have to enjoy loud explosions, stunning visual effects, and enjoy the history of the toys from being a kid. Oh yeah, Megan Fox isn't bad either !! Highly recommend the movie.

All the product placement was very obvious. From emblems, to just shots of the vehicles performing a top speed or sitting still. Dealership brand logos, marketing, the whole bit. GM really dropped some coin.

I thought the movie was great. The cars/transformers were definitely the stars. I thought a lot of the lines were cheesy and the actors were awful, but overall a lot of fun!

Seeing it tomorrow. Can't wait. I haven't heard a bad thing yet, so I'm starting to believe it will be good. Thank goodness.

By the way, GM did not "drop some coin." They paid nothing to put those products in the film. Michael Bay wanted those products there, and GM provided them free of charge. But it should be a huge deal for GM to have kids playing with the next generation of Transformer Toys, growing up Camaros, H2s, Solstices, etc. Plus the video games, happy-meals, etc.

I don't think GM had much of a choice in the particular cars that were chosen by the producers. The movie guys probably came to GM and said "What do have that looks like this?"

The Solstice is going to be the big sales winner out of all this. I bet there is a huge sales spkie in July. But, if this movie just gets people on GM sales lots looking for an H2, Topkick, or non-existent Camaro, maybe they will see something else they like and buy it. Kind of an inadvertent bait-and switch.

Also, the toys, video games, and models will be in full swing when the Camaro comes out. There won't be a lot of people out there who won't know about the Camaro.

Yep I know they had no choice of what the producers wanted, but it's what GM COULD HAVE DONE to have the Camaro out earlier. If they even could have had a handfull out by late Fall this year it could still reap the benefit of the hype from the movie. By the time it does come out the hype will be gone. People/society grow bored unfortunately of things very quickly and forget about things and move on to the next "hot" thing.

Scenario one: Imagine next summer 2008, A movie comes out highlighting the new Dodge Challenger (I'm thinking something like a remake of "Vanishing Point" but using a new Challenger not the old one). It's cool, it hauls @$$ and the consuming public hits the Dodge dealerships looking for one. Low and behold there it is. They can buy it then. What was that movie last year I liked and the car that was in it? Oh, it's still not out but this one is. Winner Dodge, Loser GM

Scenario Two: Late 20something guy watches Transformers and falls in love with the new Camaro. He's not really a GM guy, doesn't know much about domestics but is willing to dump his Civic Si for this new Camaro. He heads over to a Chevy dealer for the first time in his life looking for this Camaro. He sees a lot of trucks, nah way to big. Sees a lot of Impalas, eww a family car, no thanks. Spots a hot Vette, but knows the payments will be too much. Talks to the salesman about the Camaro and finds out it will be at least a year or more before it's out. Disappointed he walks out to his Civic and as he reaches for the door spies the Ford dealer across the street with a shiny new yellow Mustang GT with black racing stripes.

Hmm he thinks............. (draw your own conclussion)

GM actually dropped around $800 million in advertising, dealership placement, toy direction, and ect..

Work for a dealer. Got the numbers yesterday.

Re: GM's Transformers "Roll Out"!

Lots of complaints on forums about the gratuitous product placement in this film. I'll be seeing it for myself tonight.
