Re: GMI's Revitalization in Action | The Dream Saab Lineup

As big as I am on the "Ideal Lineups" - I honestly could not best - or even tie - this Saab lineup. I mean, HOLY CRAP! Amazing! The designs are insane - in the best of ways - while the cars themselves would kick serious ass.

OUTSTANDING JOB! And, in my opinion, the best you guys have done thus far!

That's great that you were able to see it. Was it anything like RIA's 9-4X design? http://www.gminsidenews.com/naias/re...ria/9-4X.shtml

What do you think of our RIA Saab lineup as a whole, as you are a Saab buyer and work at a dealer?

Saturn is the next one. Chevrolet may be afterwards, I dunno for sure.

Re: GMI's Revitalization in Action | The Dream Saab Lineup

I like the strategy however I am most concerned with the face of the vehicles. The hockey stick-esq headlights are not elegant and detract from the clean Swedish design philosophy.

Additionally I am not convinced of the new front-end styling. The center part of the grill is nice & I love the lower fascias, but I would prefer to see the Saab trademark tri-grill openings. Give the front end some edge, styled similarly to the Acura TSX and I’m in.

The 9-4 looks too bloated to garner sales & the 9-9 is a risky strategy. Smartly pull from the GM & Cadillac fold and we would all be singing GM praises!

9-1 (Shared with upcoming redesigned Opel Astra in 2010 to compete with Volvo S-30/Audi A3 & BMW 1 Series)
9-3 (on Theta architecture - AWD to compete with Volvo S-40/Acura TSX/Audi A4)
9-4X (Small CUV shared with Cadillac to compete with the new Acura RDX & upcoming Volvo XC60)
9-5 (Shared with the new Cadillac CTS platform to compete with Acura TL/Volvo S-60)
9-6X (Shared with Cadillac SRX to compete with Volvo XC90/Acura MDX)
9-7 (Shared with an updated STS platform to compete with Volvo S-80/Acura RL)

This strategy of sharing would give Saab a full line of cars to hit target sales goals and become profitable. Then they will have the infustion of cash to find their way re-make themselves like Cadillac did only a few short years ago.

Re: GMI's Revitalization in Action | The Dream Saab Lineup

Nice job. GM, if anything, needs to look at your ideas about what Saab should be and realize that the brand has a lot of unrealized potential.

My favorite one [visually] is the 9-3 covertible..it's stunning.

I kinda feel like the 'Aero' trim is overused though. It shouldn't be used on EVERY single model (reminds me of what Chevy was doing recently with the SS badge). What should be on EVERY model is BioPower. Saab could be the first luxury company to utilize green technologies across their lineup which would give them a lot of positive attention and the brand would get a taste of the increasing number of tree-hugger buyers.

The 9-6 should be Europe-only in my opinion. The Lambdas we currently have are for brands that are not sold in Europe. Europe was nice enough to give us some Opels for Saturn, lets give them a shiny new CUV. The 9-5 SportCombi should also start out in Europe and compete there with BMW and MB's upcoming sportwagens. 9-9x is a good idea too, for me its either that, or a super sporty 9-3 Aero X coupe (closely based on the concept Aero X) to indroduce Saab to the BMW M3 arena and make Saab exciting.

Sporty, Luxurios, Green, and Safe are the qualities that can make Saab into another GM success story.

Re: GMI's Revitalization in Action | The Dream Saab Lineup

Without a doubt, all of the SAAB concepts are absolutely terrific looking, with enough refinement to make Saab a global player.......BUT does Saab really need to have such an extensive line of products? I don't think so.

This smells of GM all over again. "All things to all people" I believe that the SAAB brand should grow to it's maximum potential. But to compete head on with BMW or any of the "status gang" AUDI, LEXUS, MERCEDES, INFINITY, et AL, is absurd.

SAAB has always been a hard core enthusiasts car or a yuppie boutique item at worst. My suggestion, hire a major domo marketing exec. away from BMW and take it from there.

Re: GMI's Revitalization in Action | The Dream Saab Lineup

This is probably, as I see it, your best lineup out of them all, the only possible exception being Chevy. I only have one nitpick. I think Saab need's a MINI competitor, the 9-0 from MT. I know, their lineup is already pretty full, but GM needs a MINI-fighter, and the Beat won't cut it. Otherwise it's great.

thanks.
do you think the 9-1 is not right for that?
