Finally another of intelligence! THIS MAN SPEAKS THE TRUTH! honestly im against a gto that is the same size as the camaro. I just dont like it. The firebird looks infinitely better than the camaro. BECAUSE THATS WHAT IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN. a camaro with more handsome features.

3rd & 4th gens use the corporate (read "Chevy") engine, so other than sheetmetal and interior they are fairly close. (Notable exception is the '89 Turbo Trans Am which used the Buick 3.8 from the Grand National.)

Those that say there should be no Firebird if it will just be a "re-worked" Camaro need to be asked their thoughts on the Saturn Sky? If the Solstice and the Sky can be successfull together then I see no reason why Pontiac should not sell a version of the Camaro (call it GTO, Firebird or whatever).
yeah your totally right,
and that is why the RIA Firebird is based on a Camaro, but not a mild conversion like Wademus101's white one in question.
there is nothing wrong with the Firebird being based on a camaro (weather or not it looks like the RIA one), but I don't think it should look like a camaro with new bumpers and hood as in Wademus101's pic.
and also the sky has a completely different body from the Solstice and it works well, its not a mild make over.

Wademus101 : sorry man but thats the point I think you keep missing.
if there is another Firebird (and I hope so!) there is no way Pontiac would let it just be a camaro with just a different grill and headlight setup,
but rather the difference between them would be like the Sky vs Solstice.

Actually the rear quarters were completely different on the first gen...Firebirds had those little 'gills' right in front of the rear tire.

Re: GMI Revitalization in Action; The Dream Pontiac Lineup

I think the G8 is a great alternative to rebadging a Chevy or other GM model, but why would we bother to import them if we are going to have the Zeta platform building the GTO and the Impala? Could the G8 just be built here with Aussie parts? I agree that the G6 needs to be the benchmark for mid-size sedans and it should resemble the G8, but I don't think that there needs to be both a Firebird(with a Trans-Am varient, no doubt) along with a GTO, it should be one or the other. The Solstice should stay as a limited production roadster, and if Pontiac had enough room, maybe a smaller RWD car, bigger the the current Chevy Cobalt/Pontiac G5, offering performance to those who don't need, or can afford a bigger car. Pontiac should also be RWD only, but like have system, like versatrak that when the rear wheels start to spin, torque and power are shifted from the rear to the front wheels, or to all four wheels, giving the car better traction.

Re: GMI Revitalization in Action; The Dream Pontiac Lineup

The GTO should be like the G8, only 2 Door and with loads of power, so it can spank the Charger R/T (which is still an ugly 4 doors). But they could make it a 4 Door souped up version of the G8. The smaller coupes have fallen out of favor, as have the big ones too I guess. I would just follow Dodge's model, and have the G8, with the "R/T or SRT" version being a GTO, and have the Challenger competitor be the Firebird. Again, Firebird has 40 years of positive namesake, GTO had less than 10, 30-40 years ago, and they soiled that by selling the current model, which had nothing in common with the original.

PS: A point that many people have overlooked is that when the Camaro returns, enthusiasts will automatically lament that there is no Firebird to go along with it, and quite of few will once again point some disgust at the GTO. I could be completely wrong, but I see that coming.

Re: GMI Revitalization in Action; The Dream Pontiac Lineup

People won't rag on GM anymore with no Firebird and just a Camaro. The GTO and Firebird are two different cars. The GTO is the G8 coupe and is upscale and bigger compared to a Camaro. Also, the G8 will have the GXP as the highest trim level followed by the GTP and GT.

I'm having the same problem from a PC now. All I see are the title pic (attachment too) and one of the G8 pictures: G8-21.JPG

What's with the Aztec front end on the G8? It makes the car look like it was designed 15 years ago. They should have kept the Holden front end. It's much better looking IMO.
