Re: GMI Revitalization in Action; The Dream Pontiac Lineup

That first Firebird concept was abhorrid, the gto was as well.
That Smokey and the Bandit Trans AM is amazing and looks infinitely better than the camaro. And as far as people calling it a rebadge, Isnt that what it is? A Camaro with new lights, hood, and grill. I have a 67 and thats all they did. The shaker hood is awesome.

But so far here is my Favorite concept drawing of the Firebird
I like it because it has that generic fastback design all the idiots assume is retro (fyi the camaro's really not that retro at all), but really it isnt except the center raised hood. This is a firebird all to its own and i love it!

GTO Abhorrid? Dude, If they build a GTO like that, there won't be enough. Can't wait for a JUDGE package with 500 HP.

thats cool, but as discussed earlier:
it would have taken the person who made it 10 minutes to think up the design changes at the most and another 10 to make it in photoshop.
its only basically got a different hood and grill, its 99% camaro.
If a firebird based on a camaro was to come out it had better have all new body panels, which is not that much to ask for, don't have to be that far different from the ones of the camaro, but not the same either!
look at the 3rd Gen fbodies, they shared not much in the way of body parts, same exact doors, glass and trunk and that was it. even the 3/4 panels are slightly different in the pillar area.
as for the GTO, abhorrid? most GTO fan's don't agree with you

Re: GMI Revitalization in Action; The Dream Pontiac Lineup

that orange gto on this page looks decent but that first on on the first page has a good idea, but it is terrible once you get past the first half, it is way to 'bulby' and needs to keep the haunches off of the camaro, i get where they're going with it but its not a 69, so the point is dont try and make it, its too short. that front looks awesome though. But unless pontiac gets something that can compete with the mustang, camaro, and the challenger, pontiac will die. I think they'd do well to bring back a lemans as a 4 door.

AND I THINK THE 04-06 GTO's WOULD've SEEN INFINITELY BETTER SALES IF IT WAS NAMED THE TEMPEST OR LeMANS

the gto name is what killed it, because everyone heard GTO and saw a bright orange judge, but what they got was a v8 grandam with nice interior.

and i think the concept firebird looks way better than the camaro, and historically thats how it was, the firebird was an improved camaro

Re: GMI Revitalization in Action; The Dream Pontiac Lineup

Okay, here my comments go...

I really like the Firebird, but a 'bird and GTO seems overboard. Just do the 'bird styling with a couple trims... like 'stang does.

G8 looks great!

Sorry, but I like the current G6 better than that one. I'd call for the current G6 with a mild exterior update, and engine and interior redesigns. And make awd available when it goes to Epsilon II.

Don't know if this was current...but you guys got credited at least...check it out. (had them fooled for a bit)

BTW, I LOVE the GTO and the Fchicken's not that bad - heck, love 'em all. Would take that G6 in a second. I'm hoping one day when you guys have time you'll offer up some proper PS Tutorials so us lesser mortals can attemp to make something of a similiar nature. I try, but some of that stuff is beyond me. Good work anyway. Constantly impressed by the level of work (some) of you guys do. Names escape me and I aint got time to look 'em up...but I'm sure you'll be the winners this week - again. sigh...

are you going to get a 2008 camaro? if so you can take it down to a body shop and by the end of the weekend they will have turned it into something different for you!

Re: GMI Revitalization in Action; The Dream Pontiac Lineup

I would be very impressed with GM if they offered this as a Pontiac Lineup. I am saving my reservations and my savings for a new Firebird. If GM wants my sooner, they had better get that car out ASAP or else I'll just buy some used fbodies (which doesn't inherently help GM). I don't want a Solstice, I don't want a GTO! All I want is a Firebird, and maybe a G6 GT Convertible for a grocery getter.

Depends on what you consider mildly worked.

1st and 2nd gens used the same underbody, rear quarterpanels and door, but the rest of the sheet metal, interior, suspension, and engine were Pontiac. (Compare the '73 SD 455 with the a '73 Z28 with a Chevy 350).

3rd & 4th gens use the corporate (read "Chevy") engine, so other than sheetmetal and interior they are fairly close. (Notable exception is the '89 Turbo Trans Am which used the Buick 3.8 from the Grand National.)

Those that say there should be no Firebird if it will just be a "re-worked" Camaro need to be asked their thoughts on the Saturn Sky? If the Solstice and the Sky can be successfull together then I see no reason why Pontiac should not sell a version of the Camaro (call it GTO, Firebird or whatever).
