Re: GMI Revitalization in Action; The Dream Pontiac Lineup

One more opinion:
1) Don't like the Firebird sketch. I like the idea of a Firebird, just not looking like that.
2) The GTO only has one problem IMO. Those large diameter wheels & tires have got to go. There is no advantage (performance-wise) to putting big, heavy rims on a car.
3) The G6: Call it a Grand Am again. The current car has the optical illusion of looking like a bigger car than it really is. A good mid-size effort. The chop looks good. It resembles a bigger Civic to me. I see it in the headlights.

Now for my favorite: the G8. With the recent chops of Holden's Commodore as Pontiacs, this is the first car that I want before it comes out. The $38K-$48K price tag is a big no-no. I see a ton of the current GP in the chop. I like the current GP & might have bought one, if it was RWD. I have one change for it. Move the park lights/turn signals to the horizontal line under the headlights. Otherwise, keep it as close to $30K as possible & offer the full power LS2, 400hp engine. It is a sports sedan you know.

Awsome, awsome job! I liked the GTO best. The Buick lineup was better though, mainly because there was more.

Introduction:

Given the notoriety and importance of the GTO, we felt it was important that it be better differentiated from it's Holden brother, so we gave the GTO it's own, dedicated body based upon the Zeta platform. We felt that, as Pontiac's "halo" vehicle, it was important that it had to have a strong connection to the past. Slotting above the Firebird, the GTO is a sporty muscle car that has fresh styling, presented in a retro light. Simply put, the GTO isn't GM's Challenger/Mustang fighter. We'll leave that to the Firebird. GTO is intended to sit at the top of Pontiac's lineup; the more expensive, higher end muscle car, positioned at a higher, less accessible price point then the Firebird. We believe it's a true GTO, paying homage to the past greats, but a car for the future. What the GTO would be like if it had continued all these years. The GTO's planned introduction date is late 2008, as a 2009.

Specs Sheet:
Base Platform: Zeta
Drive Wheels: RWD
Engines: 6000 6.0L V8 w/400 HP
Transmissions: 6 speed Automatic

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
TO GM MAKE THIS THE GTO FRONT END. as for the rest of the car they must follow the lines of the front end. and if you want let George Loziou do the rest of the art work for the car and you have a winner combo. dont let anyone else do the work. when you need ideas come see us at GMI

That would be a mean car, and distance itself enough from the Camaro, that it could stand and fight on it's own. Actually, with the right engine, and smaller size, I could see a Firebird like that out-lasting the Camaro.

But, I'm getting horribly off-topic. Cheers once again to the people involved. This is an amazing line up.
I've thought a lot about this notion as of late that each division would get at least one exclusive platform - in the interest of eliminating 'cross shopping' or intramural competition between GM divisions.

Lets say the Zeta gets spread around to several divisions, then maybe Pontiac would cede the G6/Malibu to Saturn, but get an exclusive small rear drive Kappa Solstice, longer 2+2 and maybe even a longer sport sedan with 4cyl standard (G4) and the G6 would have an ohv V6.

This way you retain the HF V6 for Buick so the only way to get the engine would be to buy a Buick.

Cadillac: exlusive Sigma
Buick: exclusive "G" i.e. Lucerne
Saturn: exclusive Epsilon
Pontiac: exclusive Kappa
Chevy: exclusive Delta

I'm sure these took a lot of work, so good job.

But i think they're all ugly.
The G8 isn't bad but it looks like the current grand prix.

The G8 is the only decent looking out of those. I like the direction y'all went in, but that GTO and 'Bird are ugly.

This incarnation of the Firebird IMO is the best i've seen yet.

I still think I like the rendering of the Black Firebird T/A with the gold chicken on the hood better. You know the awesome one that seems to be around all the time on this forum in someone's signature or avatar. If GM makes the Firebird T/A again, it just damn well better have a functional Ram Air hood for the V8!

A 2 t 2 kappa- based Firebird offering both 6 and 8 cylinder options makes a lot more sense than an 8 cylinder only GTO for Pontiac.

I have to agree. The Zeta - based Camaro is a big car, and leaves room for something smaller. A kappa based Firebird would be perfect.

Overall I think the whole lineup looks great, but I'm not too sure about the GTO styling. The G6 and the G8 both look fantastic though.
