Re: GMI's Revitalization in Action | The Dream Chevrolet Lineup
FIRST, let me start off by saying - I was really hoping to see that stupid rear window of the Vette get addressed. Sadly it was not. Not at all. I do not like that 1984 bubble glass. Puke. Fix it and leave the rest of the vette largely unchanged.
Overall - amazing work ... but too me, they all look dated and way too similar. I think it's largely my distaste with the trendy theme. The little windows, oversized wheels, overly dramatic angles, and the "jacked-up" body stance. It's soooo done. Soooo 2004. Or is 2002? When did that God-awful Chrysler 300 come out? Stop being a follower GM... Just make a pretty car with pretty lines. Everyone's doing that jacked-up little window crap, and by the time GM actually rolls these things out...those design cues will be a decade and a half old. Reach. REACH. Come on. Think sexy for a God-damn change. Get over this I'm more aggressive bullcrap...what are you makin' Dodges? Come on. The irony with this obsessive aggressive design fluff is that cars are becoming more and more sissy - more concerned with protecting the stupid environment than gettin' through it. All this flex-fuel crap will kill the HP wars and leave us with a bunch of phony, charlatan cars: all puffed up in a fluffy body-armour fascade, protecting wee little eco-tech corn burning engines. Get in the game or get out. Last edited by Sandwich : 01-04-2008 at 10:31 AM. |

Why do people keep aiming their posts at GM? I think about half the people posting think these are GM sketches, and not GMI sketches.
General Motors design studios had nothing to do with any of these pieces. It's speculation and dreaming by GMI's best.

Re: GMI's Revitalization in Action | The Dream Chevrolet Lineup
Well, I'm not negative - I do recognize the work well done by GMI. Very professional and very stylish - an aesthetically pleasing set of designs that would certainly create more business for GM.
My comments were around trends. I'm not really into trends. That's a personality trait that I recognize is unique to my experience and perception. Coupled with GM's amazing time-to-market lag (Camaro), I'm advancing the notion that basing a lineup around ANY trend would create further problems down the road. I do like American design - and moreso - American spirit. I say that because of late designs coming from America have been very poor. There's been times when American design was extrodinary (20s 30s 40s...) and led the world. Even in the 70s and 80s, when design was beginning to fade, American spirit caried the water. Now - American Spirit is even in danger. A trend toward making our cars FEEL - not just look - like Japo/Euro cars is suddenly "the solution." To which I would say...if that's all you got for a solution, then I'll take the real thing...and buy the Euro. These designs offered by GMI have great style and spirit, no question. But I'm wary of the trend. Not only that, but we all know GM will not execute these designs to the full degree. |

Love the 2011 Caprice. GM needs to keep a true midsize FWD car in their line up to replace the current Impala.

If you bring back the chevelle, you better not mess it up. Its my favorite car. You have to make it VERY aggressive, not tiny!, 5 spoke rims, dual headlights, a long roof, a wide grill, and a 454 427 or 396 badge!!

Re: GMI's Revitalization in Action | The Dream Chevrolet Lineup
Maybe LS7, but never again will we see 454, 427, or 396 on a car again. It gets sand in my teeth to see new GMT-900's and some late -800's with throwback 327 badges, when they're running a 325. Dealers really are the weak link.

Re: GMI's Revitalization in Action | The Dream Chevrolet Lineup
The Beat and Aveo look great especially if they get over 40 mpg. If Gm focuses on the style and economy of these two cars they will find that people will be buying models other than the LS. Oh, and higher models tend to get better profits so then they would have more money to improve them even in the future.

Re: GMI's Revitalization in Action | The Dream Chevrolet Lineup
This lineup is great, I think it's only missing a few things.
1. An SS-based Monte Carlo coupe. This was a great concept, and would make a great sports car to slot below the Corvette. 2. A Stingray based on the drawing we saw in MT. I know, I know, most people don't think we need another Kappa, but come on people, that thing was beautiful. 3. A new Nova. I really don't know how one would accomplish this, maybe as a Kappa based 2+2 coupe. However, Nova was one of the greatest muscle cars, and I'd like to see this historic nameplate carried on into the future. If it can't be done realistically, don't do it, but I would love to see a modern Nova, maybe slotting below the Camaro and Chevelle. That way Chevy would have two sports car line going Stingray>Monte Carlo>Corvette and Nova>Camaro>Chevelle. None of these things are really missing, I suppose, but a few ideas that could add to your already fantastic lineup. |

Re: GMI's Revitalization in Action | The Dream Chevrolet Lineup
Wouldn't that be a redundant product with the Camaro coming?
