General Motors will be recalling 5,000 new full-size pickups and SUVs to address faulty control arms.
Included in the campaign are the*2016-2017 Chevrolet Silverado, joined by the 2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV; Chevrolet Tahoe; and GMC Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL.
The issue stems from front upper control arms which may have botched welds near the bushing, which could lead to failure.

The test also confirmed that the poor quality weld can fail at low or high speeds during steering or braking maneuvers, or with jarring road inputs such as potholes."
Dealers will replace both left and right front upper control arms including realignment. GM has begun notifying owners, however parts are not currently available, a second notification will be sent out when necessary components become available.
Last year I decided to buy a new SUV. I have owned GM vehicles continuously for more than four decades. I looked at the 2015 Tahoe but it had accumulated five safety recalls midway through the model year (which has increased to seven safety recalls). The third seat was also too cramped. I bought a new 2015 Ford Expedtion Limited 4x4 - my first Ford.
This current recall, which includes the Tahoe, reinforces my decision to buy a new Ford. When will GM stop the poor quality which affects the safety of their new vehicles?
Do not drive your new vehicle - and by the way, repair parts are not available. This will make for some happy GM customers.
How many decades has GM been using control arms? And now suddenly they cannot supply ones that is safe on a vehicle? They really expect people to stop driving their vehicles which are daily drivers they depend on? Of course GM is going to do NOTHING for their inconvenience. No loaner car, no alternate transportation reimbursements...
I had a rental GMC Yukon for 3 weeks not too long ago.
It made a very loud metallic snapping sound when making sharp turns at low speeds.
Definitely gave the car a real GM ring to it.
this obviously is a supplier issue. For how many of these vehicles they make this supplier is probably not the only one making this part. Obviously when you build this many vehicles you have to use different suppliers and this one has failed to make a good part.
For the guy who bought the Ford good for you. Fords are ugly but to each there own. Recalls are not bad, not fixing problems is bad. Ford's Escape is riddle with recalls and so are other manufactures. Just GM seems to be put in the spotlight when they have them.
The Expedition/Expedition EL/Naviator/Navigator L quadruplets may not be anywhere as popular as GMs full size SUVs but they are definitely 200% better as people haulers when fully loaded with passengers. This is coming from a GM (especially Caddy) fan, too.
