Re: GM to Bolster Liquidity by $15 Billion through 2009

I suppose I'm just in the dark but have we had any inkling of the 2.3L DI before? Is another Ecotec or a new family?

Of course I've thought for a long time that the 3.6L 2 mode was a mistake and they should have targeted the 2.4L instead for the Theta products. I wonder it that's in the works as well.

They probably said it wrong, there'd be no sense in making a new crank and rods and/or cylinder bore that would land in between the 2.2 and 2.4 Ecotec - it's most likely a 2.4 considering it's going into an SUV that already carries a 2.4 (Vue Theta). They're trying to save money; developing a new displacement for the Ecotec isn't saving money.

Maybe they're just scrapping the 2.2 and the 2.4 and developing one Ecotec 4-cyl for the future. If its a great engine with lots of tech (VVT, DI, etc) then why do we need a 2.2 and a 2.4? This 2.3 could make anywhere from 180hp to 300hp+ (think about the HP per cubic inch numbers posted by GM's other DI mills...1.4hp per CI from the 3.6 DI to 2.1 hp per CI in the 2.0 DI)

Re: GM to Bolster Liquidity by $15 Billion through 2009

I'm not sure what the goal of this announcement was...
If it was to improve investor confidence... It is a truck load of fail...

Overnight we took a $10.00 a share stock and drove it into the eights.

Seven dollars a share here we come!

Someday in the not too distant future, when you go to your local bank and find it shuttered with a note on the door 'OUT OF BUSINESS, FDIC HOLIDAY" you'll have GM to thank.
Why do you say that?

Also can someone elaborate on the pros and cons of cutting the dividend? Sure it saves 800million but I thought that just insults investor confidence if I'm not mistaken?

FDIC holiday, huh?

I see too many of you saying this is not enough. Or this is not what you were expecting. So what is it that would be enough? What is it that you were expecting? Our media and all of us in the US are getting into a very dangerous mode. We say things are not enough and measures are wrong without proposing a viable alternative. We are all turning into politicians.

Where do you come up with $15 Billion more in debt form these stories?

The only thing mentioned about additional financing is a possible $2-$3 Billion.

Heres what this was.

A Wall Street type guy last week was widely quoted as saying GM needs $15 Billion to get through 2009.

Rick and the Board looked around and identified how to come up with $15 Billion though 2009.

Re: GM to Bolster Liquidity by $15 Billion through 2009

Folks-

Am I the only TOTALLY confused by the Buick Invicta rear-wheel drive comment? I thought it was supposed to be on the FWD Epsilon II platform? Could this possibly be true? I've checked at other websites and they're saying the same thing about RWD. IF it is true, how could everyone have been so confused!?

Re: GM to Bolster Liquidity by $15 Billion through 2009

I personally suspect that someone made a mistake w.r.t. the Invicta being RWD. Its not like GM can keep a secret like this...

I'd love to be wrong though, but (I can't believe I'm saying this) I still look forward to the Invicta even if it is FWD, since it looks like it might actually be a nice car.

I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that he didn't mean it like that. I think he meant 'need' in terms of what people actually buy, not what they say they want or what focus groups conclude, but never end up buying.
