Re: GM: 2006 Review, 2007 Preview
Interesting write ups, but I think ChevroletRevived is being to optimistic. First off the VE Commodore is the number one seller here, however its sales aren't as strong as a few years ago and it has to deal with the corolla biting on its heals. Holden will probably only get more sales growth with the VE if it ramps up its Export drive.
Secondly of course GM is going great in China. Toyota however has committed itself to taking GM on in China, so I don't think it's going to be easy going there. There will be growth, but GM needs to keep focused on improvement. Talking about significant sales growth in GMNA is also premature I think. By the sounds of it good products are coming on line with more to come on for the 08 model year. The COTY and TOTY awards will help, however it takes time to change perceptions. I think the realisitic goal for GM this year is to stop the sales slump, solidify its position, post some quarters of good solid profits, and when the 08 models come on line later on in the year, maybe then sales will pick up. GM needs to stay focused and as hard edged as Toyota is, it can't be complacent. It will be interesting to see how the Contract negotiations will go, as they will be important, I hope the UAW comes to the party and doesnt use the COTY and TOTY awards to try and pressure GM for less concessions. |
