Just because the new Vue is overweight and GM has a bunch of fatties in the lineup is no reason to think the Equinox won't be a featherweight... although does anyone know any reason to think differently????
Rocket- read the thread on the new GM little-utes. Stop the doom-n-gloom.

Nothing wrong with a little larger Equinox if it's going to be pushing 27+mpg. An optional 3rd row of seating, even if it is almost unusable, will also sell many more vehicles. The current Nox/Torrent is awful inside, and they ride like crap. People comming inside the dealerships are looking for a fuel efficient suv/crossover package. SIZE DOES NOT MATTER! Actually, the more stuff/people you can shove in, the better. We need this to be the next volume crossover (we miss the Rendezvous)!

I'm not sure why they couldn't do it, either? I think (correct me if I'm wrong) the Captiva is on Theta 1.5 like the new Vue, while the Equinox is on Theta II, but I don't know why the current Captiva could get three rows in that length and not the 'nox.

Re: 2010 Equinox: Chevrolet's New Edge?

Why does a recent news posting on the new 'nox over on Edmunds indicate the the upcoming vehicle is on the same platform as the Malibu and Aura (not sure whether they mean the current Ep I or the upcoming Ep II)?

Because they are incorrect. Epsilon in its current form cannot even spawn crossovers.

Bob Lutz himself was asked this very same question because so many people think it's that easy. If you search on this site you might find the interview. You cannot "dial" down hp in favor of fuel economy.

The CR-V and Escape are very comparable. Sure, the Honda is lighter, probably more nimble, and maybe not as "rugged." But we're talking FWD/AWD small CUVs here, not Hummers, Jeeps, or Land Rovers.
Actually, the 4cyl Escape is lighter than the CRV. Yes, the 6cyl is heavier than the 4cyl CRV.

Other than that, I agree completely.

My Tribute was great fun around town. It was nimble and easy to drive. I could park anywhere I wanted. Now I am driving this Superduty, which I love on the road. Parking lots are another story, however. LOL

Oh, and the Escape gets horrible horrible gas milage. City driving, my gf is lucky to get more then 15mpg. Even when we took it down to DC, we were pushing to get 20mpg.
Then you are driving with a lead foot OR the Escape needs a tune up.

And it's kind of neat how, when confronted with facts, you move off of your original contention that the Escape is much larger than the others. Smoooth.

(BTW - I am a GM buyer, haven't ever owned a Ford)

You can tell all of that from one low-quality 400 pixel image? Damn you're good.

Remember what we talked about....

NASP....what kind of problems did your Equinox have?
Wasn't it bought back by GM?

Pretty much everyone I know with an Equinox, Torrent or previous generation Vue ended up having major reliability problems....and I was sure that yours had issues, too.

GM needs to address that even more than they need to address the "initial quality".

Re: 2010 Equinox: Chevrolet's New Edge?

Initial information is encouraging and like the fact they are offering a 2.3L I-4 as a base and over 200 HP sounds great, any torque numbers?

Also hope they keep the adjustable/reclining 2nd row but think at least one model needs a 3rd row option - maybe a feature to make it "different" than the others.

Hopefully GM will make one of the models more "off-road ready" than the current ones - not looking to do the Rubicon Trail in one but but better than just unpaved or snow covered road capable. GM could offer an air adjustable suspension to give better ground clearance and a sub frame like Suzuki did with the Grand Vitara.

It is in Mexico. But the Equinox and Torrent are not made there. Only the Vue is.

The Nox and Torrent are made at the CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario.

On another note the current theta twins reliability problems seemed to stem from the Chinese made 3.4L V6.

The new Nox and Terrain will not use this engine. Plus will probably have a 6 speed auto.

It's in the design...roof lines don't allow for a thrid row in the Equinox...old or new.

I heard the 4 cylinder may come from either Tonawanda NY or St. Catherines in Ontario Canada
