Re: 2010 Camaro To Be Unveild Monday July 21st, 2008

It does seem like this is taking forever but lots are still anxiously awaiting the Camaro. Hopefully they will have some fuel efficient options that work in a Camaro. The 3.6L V6 won't be too bad but fuel economy will still on the low side of what is becoming acceptable. I wonder when/if they will offer the 2.0L DI turbo 4cyl and what kind of fuel economy and performance it will offer.

And production won't start for another 6 months right?

The truck thing was a key part of the original restructuring plan. GM saw that the market was shrinking, but they put out the best truck possible so as to retain a large a slice of it as possible - ie keep the cash cow giving cash for as long as possible. Thus giving them more time to work on cars. Unfortunately no one foresaw the massive spike in gas prices and the subsequent collapse of the US economy. If gas prices would have slowly increased, I think GM would have been OK.

Not even that, if the economy itself was still strong enough where people had jobs and money to spend, they would be hurt with gas prices and probably shift away from big gas hungry SUV's, but still have the ability to buy 30-40k Lambdas or other crossovers.

Lots of blah blah Camaro took too long talk. Im sorry, where is the Challenger? Ohyeah, 5000 units @ 41k(if you can avoid the mark up) for the year...see the full line next year. Next?

If you are gunna be late to the party...better bring the best gifts.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the Camaro. I also fully understand why GM is in this position. I'm just commenting on how bad the timing worked out for GM.

Whats with the Doom and Gloom people?

Sure its not a great climate to sell a muscle car, but our beloved Camaro is finally coming. We should be happy!

I was hoping for the price-friendly, torquey 3900 OHV V6. Did that ever pan out? Or did they go with the 3.6L? (Geez, I'm out of it, following Unicorns like the Beat)

Pretty much dead on, but considering that Challenger already had a platform as well as engines and powertrains already certified for that platform, all they had to do was come up with some sheet metal. And that they lifted right off of the 1970's. Really...what took the Challenger so long?
It feels long cause Camaro has been in the lime light longer.

Sure will. And by the 15 people who got to drive it, they said that teh V6 car will by far exceed everyones expectations. Nore more settling for a V6 car.

With economy of scale, how much more expensive is it to make the 3.6, which is in every car that has a V6 (outside of Impala) then to produce the 3.9 for Camaro and Impala alone? Add direct injection for more performance and better fuel econ....
Stop chasing Beats. If anything, see if Paul can send one over.

Here is my prediction. 300hp with 30mpg highway in a 3600lbs package with 6spd manual or automatic, with more standard equipment then Mustang or Challenger, and a price of 23,995. Pricing wont be announced till just before going on sale, but we should know 7/8ths of the Camaro mystery come Monday afternoon.

Sorry, but when we've been hearing about the upcoming Camaro for roughly the past ten years, the "blah blah Camaro took too long talk" is totally warranted.

I have no doubt that it'll be a great car, but with so much anticipation there will undoubtedly be some very lofty expectations. If there are ANY compromises or glaring omissions, it's not going to be pretty.

Re: 2010 Camaro To Be Unveild Monday July 21st, 2008

Being a very passionate lover of Camaro's and Corvettes, it doesn't bother me
one bit that it took a while for the Camaro to be developed. We were told
very early on, that it would be on a brand new platform, and that it wasn't
possible to put it out as quickly as the Challenger, that already had a head
start with an existing platform. The wait for the actual production Camaro
is worth the long wait.
I just wish they wouldn't have let the cat out of the bag so early. That's
my only gripe.

The Camaro Concept was shown at the 2006 NAIS. That's 30 months ago. The car was greenlit for production on August 5 2006. That's 23 months ago. It will be in showrooms in February 2009. That's 7 months from now 30 months from the production announcement and 37 months from the debut of the concept. That's not quite 10 years. And really a pretty speedy development cycle for an all new car. If interest in it weren't so high, it wouldn't be so omnipresent and feel like it's "been around forever." I have no doubts it will still seem pretty fresh to those who don't frequent automotive blogs and messageboards daily

"Wow, you mean they really made that one from Transformers?"

Re: 2010 Camaro To Be Unveild Monday July 21st, 2008

Oh, I expect Camaro to be shot down much faster then Challenger or Mustang. It already has.

Even though Camaro had to have a new plant retooled, a new chassis made for it, on top of fight throught the CAW/UAW fight-fest, it will be 2 years from Green light in August of 2006 to the official unvieling on Monday.
Challenger on the other hand, gets a pass for taking 2 years from concept to production, coming in at over 2 tons for the V8 model, based off an existing platform that has been in production since 2004, using powertrains that have been around just as long.

Camaro will be nit-picked by every one, but you know what that means? Jealiousy. Desperation is a smelly perfume, and the competition and its fanboys wear it every day.
I try not to get upset by the talks and the bs garbage that is slung at Camaro, cause the day that the first magazine review comes out, we know who will be crowned king.
Thoes that have kept the faith since 2002 will be rewarded with one of the best sports coupes on the market, clearly beating out its competition.

An announcement about an announcement. This isn't going to make it show up any sooner. Frankly nobody really gives a damn about this car anymore. Talking about things for 5 years is NOT how you do things.

They've taken so long to get this thing ready that the chassis will be out dated before it debuts.
