Thumbs down Re: Jalopnik lets the cat out of the bag reveals 2010 camaro info before monday revea

All the retro styling fans are going to wet themselves. I'm not a fan of retro styling. The interior is fairly decent in terms of quality materials and even the design is intriguing....up to a point. Why would you put gauges on the console? The driver needs to have them in front of him or her. Also, needles? Too retro, ugly, non-functional for words. Get with it and dump this before production starts or change it for the following model year.

Fanfriggintastic!! It looks great! Even the interior which was my biggest concern. Great job! This will do great! I'll have one anyway!!

The SS I guess is going to be the flagship anyways, in looks and performance.

But I gotta say, HOLY CRAP when it comes to the V6 horsepower! Poppa likes! Beats the hell out of the 200HP V6 that the Firebird/Camaros had in 2002 MY.
In the Latest Road & Track they already had a lot of this info in their along with the Z28 having the highest HP of 500 plus (Same as the CTS-V), and released a year later with the convertible. I wish GM kept the SS as the top model though.

Even the Mustang is barely acceptable at 3200 lbs...

the car is awesome, but I remember I was more positive about new Mustang when it came out back in 2005, it seems I always liked the Mustang designs better. Anyway Camaro is a hit. It has even nice modern headlights. I wonder what the people who claim Camaro is not refined enough to compete in Europe against more expensive rivals will say. There are such goodies as IRS, modern engines, projector headlights etc. Maybe somebody finds cheap plastic panels in the trunk???

I think it looks great, but if it doesn't have push button start forget it. I refuse to use a key to start a vehicle. Its so ancient!

Re: Jalopnik lets the cat out of the bag reveals 2010 camaro info before monday revea

C&D had some interesting info posted up.

The battery stows in the trunk to enhance weight distribution, which Chevy expects to be about 50/50 with the driver on board. No firm numbers on curb weights yet, but the development team predicts about 3750 pounds for the V-6 version shown here and 3900 for Camaros propelled by V-8s.

Which brings us to powertrains. A 296-hp, direct-injection 3.6-liter, DOHC 24-valve V-6 with variable valve timing will be standard in the RS shown here, and there will be a choice of two pushrod V-8s, L99 and LS3, both 6.2 liters, one expected to generate just under 400 horsepower, the other capable of about 416. The LS3 will be the stud in the corral. Will the L99 be the Z28 and the LS3 the SS? We’d bet yes, although no one at Chevy will say yea or nay right now. They also refuse to discuss the rumor of a possible future turbo four. Ditto hybrids.

All engines will be offered with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. The six will come with an Aisin six-speed manual or a GM 6L50 six-speed Hydramatic also used in the Cadillac CTS. V-8 transmissions will be a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual, essentially the same gearbox employed in the Corvette, or a GM 6L80 six-speed automatic.

And it also has a torque gauge.

3,750 lbs...
400 Hp...
6-speed Manual...
IRS...
Sweet Interior...

You could've bought a GTO in 2005 with all those specs, and more exclusivity. I'm not saying it isn't cool, because it looks pretty damn sweet, but I was expecting more. I wanted to see something lighter, a turbo-4 would have been cool, with the SS being completely over the top. It should be an SS 427, with the 7 Ltr. Z06 engine...

Re: Jalopnik lets the cat out of the bag reveals 2010 camaro info before monday revea

Lovin the exterior and interior, but the lack of a mild ~300 hp/320 lb-ft LS v8 kinda kills it for me. There's essentially no weight or mpg penalty over the 3.6 HF v6 (especially with DI added as well) but you just can't get the same sound out of a v6 as you can a v8, and as a car enthusiast, sound matters. Plus, it would help kill the perception that all v8's use more gas than v6's.

I agree. Glad GM kept it pretty close to the concept.

Technically the Mustang and Challenger both offer NAV so there is now reason why it shouldn't ...... nevermind won't go there. Maybe it will, who knows.

Take a look at the rectangle cutout on the top of the dash. The CTS has a pop nav, why can't the Camaro. Plus, no nav = less weight.

lol...the Belair doesn't have any start right now. The old motor has been put to the graveyard and hopefully within the year a 406 will be in its place. ;o)
Seriously though, I love the new Camaro and who knows, in a year or two I will be ready to get a new car. It will either be the Camaro V6 or the G8 V6 since there will be no RWD Impala which is what I was really hoping for.
