I agree with competing against the Mazda 3 in NA. But disagree with the Corolla. God, the Corolla screams Wonder Bread. OK, you get quality from Toyota, but God you blend into the crowd in those.

The new interior is much better than the current pedestrian version. Materials should be good given GM's committment to quality and recent interiors.

It looks like the Cadillac CTS is influencing the design if the gauge cluster and hood that surrounds it. Also see some new Buick side vent in the center stack. Global design resources.

I think the Astra needs to soften its appearance.

I'm hoping the real car is better looking than this. The chop looks droopy/dumpy to me.

Good find! The spy shots looks particularly promising. Liking that interior a lot!

That would make sense, but what I've been reading lately, the Cobalt, Chevys 'premium' small car is Gamma based? If so, GM is dumber than dirt.
Can anyone confirm this?

Looks a little MPV-ish. If that's what it takes...

Anyone notice the wide rear tires and skinny fronts in that chop? Should be the other way around in a front driver like the GP GXP right.

Aehm, sorry, but I call BS on parts of this Article. The OPEL Astra does mainly compete with the VW Golf and various entries from Frances Renault and maybe Skoda and other European Brands.
Mazda seems also to be much more prominently solds than Toyota. If those two are the buyers OPEL aims for, they missed the market big time.
Now talk about Saturn, different story (because of america's ongoing love-affair with imports)
This particular story was done in Australia, for the Holden Astra, where the biggest sellers in the class are the Corolla and Mazda 3, hence them putting the focus on those too.

Don't care much for the egg shape. Maybe the final version will look better? AWD is much more than I expected from this vehicle. A more powerful engine option along with a more fuel efficient option will be welcome. I just hope they build them closer to home soon so you can get them optioned out.

I love my Cobalt, but I hate looking under the rear and seeing a beam instead of A-arms.
FYI - Honda use torsion beam on the Euro spec version.

True but the Astra’s main competition in Europe is the Focus.
