Re: 2009 fuel economy
Clearly the Malibu is the way to go, much more space and refinement with the virtually the same mileage.
GM needs to really stress and compare their mileage Bu numbers with the Camcords of the world. |

I agree the Malibu with the 6 speed auto and 4 cylinder is a 'better car" than the cobalt, but you have to remember, to get the Malibu in that configuration you need to at least get the LT package and upgrade to the 6 speed, so you are talking close to a $22k or $23k MSRP, with fewer incentives and cars selling closer to invoice...rather than a Cobalt you can probably get for well under $15,000 when dealer haggling and incentives are figured in. Probably a $7000-$10000 difference. A better car with more features? yes...but at a much larger cost of entry. Last edited by mjd1001 : 07-16-2008 at 08:54 AM. |

I think the Saturn Aura will be standard with the 6-speed on all model levels so that might be another route. |

Re: 2009 fuel economy
The revised / lowered EPA ratings for my 2008 Impala LTZ with the 3.9 V-6 (using regular gasoline) was rated at 18 city / 28 highway. The car has never achieved that mileage.
The 2009 EPA mpg ratings for the 2009 Impala with the 3.9 V-6 (using regular gasoline) has been revised / lowered again to 17 city / 27 highway. |

Re: 2009 fuel economy
Nice improvement for the Cobalt but it still isn't as good with the automatic (which most people buy) as the Corolla or Civic. The next generation car with its new powertrains can't get here soon enough.
The Malibu is definitely impressive.

Re: 2009 fuel economy
I get 38/39MPG cruising at 65 with the AC on in my Manual Cobalt. My last tank which I calculated by hand was 37.59 MPG. And I don't have the XFE, but I do have an 08.

Re: 2009 fuel economy
Some good info there. Cobalt's bump to 37mpg is cool, still class leading now. Aura has 6spd standard while an option for LT cars.
Its standard on 2LT and LTZ. 33mpg is a good deal, cant wait to see what will happen when we see a DI'ed 3.6 put in. near 300hp and 36mpg? Is it possible that a Camaro that will weight about 100-200lbs more then Malibu could get over 30mpg with a 3.6 DI motor and 6spd manual or auto? If thats the case, Camaro could be the best thing GM has got going for it. 300hp and over 30mpg.

Re: 2009 fuel economy
no numbers for the 5.3 V8 colorado yet? although kind of un-intended, those can prove to be pretty important if they're a decent bump over the much bigger, much heavier GMT900's.
