BS, they absolutley can. But they don't need to, it kills them to write a positive thing about Domestics (especially GM). Talk about a bunch of techie geeks that think they know the first thing about a car. They should stick to reviewing washing machines and PDAs. Everytime I read one of their special edition car reviews I laugh my a$$ off because of the transparently blatant bias.

One of the dumbest things about all of the segment comparisions is they rarely compair apples to apples. This has worked for and against GM on many occasions. They'll often have 5 "pickups", none of which have common packages or similar uses and expect to have a fair review. They usually do something as ridiculous as comparing a Cadillac Escalade EXT with a SuperDuty 3/4 ton, a crew cab 1/2 ton Silverado and diesel powered Ram. How is that comparison useful? Consumer Reports is the worst at that. Motor Trend isn't far behind though.

I more or less agree.

I don't think that CR is bought off the same way the other mags are.
I don't think that the high school slut is bought off the same way a whore on the corner is either.

Is either one really all that more pure then the other?

CR whores themselves out for popularity instead of cash, not that big of a difference in my book.

Wow, that was kind of a crude comparison. Sorry about that.

they do (truck trend- sister mag of MT does it), truck of the year or anything of the year is more of a best of the new than a best of whats out there competition. ina future issue theyll compare every truck by class and give you the winners.

"The Silverado, released in the fall, offers a choice of cab and bed sizes, plus suspensions and drivetrains for a variety of uses. Motor Trend said its reliability and fuel efficiency were also factors in the win."

score!

i cant wait til next year, hopefully the 2-modes will be out for the pickups, making them able to compete in next years competition. so next year so far its gm hd's, tundra, two-mode gm half-tons, f-150(?). and whos to say that the 2008 tundra wont be out by december this year? im sure it will be.

Re: 2007 Chevy Silverado Named MotorTrend Truck of the Year!!

Did you really expect anything else? When the new F-150 is released it will win. When the new Ram is released it will win. I bet you can guess who I think will win when the new Tundra is released?
Anyone who thinks that the car companies (execs) don't have their hands in the pockets of these magazine editors etc is only fooling themselves.
A legitimate reward would be one based on sales...and in that respect the F-150 has been winning for a long time!
Money talks and bull$h!+ walks.

Re: 2007 Chevy Silverado Named MotorTrend Truck of the Year!!

GM sells more trucks than Ford. http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/otf0999.html

I have a GMC myself. If GMC were not available, I would be driving the Chevrolet truck. GMC cannibalizes sales from the Chevy.

Re: 2007 Chevy Silverado Named MotorTrend Truck of the Year!!

If you add up the sales GMC and Chevrolet absolutely kill the competition.

The car mag's don't know what they want. Last silverado was too rough, this ones too smooth. They just want to set up a reson to let the tundra win. I mean afterall they just want a truck that looks like a truck and drives like a boring, insert any toyota car.

P.S. I have worked for GM and was supposed to work for Toyota, I think you can tell I'm a bit biased. Had a Toyota now nothing but GM in the garage.

I agree. Between the two, they capture more sales. Without GMC more Chevys would sell, but total sales of pickups would be down.

That doesn't surprise me one bit. A couple of friends and I attended a recent car show with the new Tundra on display. It's phantom of the opera double dash had us in stitches, the gas cap door when opened was so flimsy, a child could have easily bent and misaligned it, the Nav screen was barely reachable as it was on the passenger side of the truck, the interior had many cheap bits and the exterior was hideous. About it's only claim to fame was the power of the top 5.7 liter V8 but at what price?

Thumbs up Re: 2007 Chevy Silverado Named MotorTrend Truck of the Year!!

While i do think the Sliverado is the best looking truck of all i'm sure it takes money to win awards with those magazines one way or the other.
