Re: Who is using Amsoil?

I use Mobil One in my Impala.I use Castrol in my wife's honda.I try to stay with recommended oils.I habe considered Royal Purple for my Impala.IMO it is way too expensive.Amsoil is also way too expensive.

Re: Who is using Amsoil?

I use AMSOIL in everything I own since the day I discovered it. My Duramx came with Mobil 1 Delvac in it, and when I chaged to AMSOIL wow what a difference. I picked up 1 MPG and it runs a lot smother and quieter. Heck even my lawnmower runs a lot better now.

Re: Who is using Amsoil?

The one time I used AMSOIL, the oil consumption was horrible! I tried it on a 2004 Bonneville (which I regret I sold!!! :+( ) and upon using just once numerous oil leaks had started to appear...and in a 3000 mile period I was down nearly a quart.

I switched back after that service to regular Mobil 5000 5w30...and the leaks disappeared and the oil level never changed on the dipstick...

I did other trials using Valvoline synthetic & Mobil 1, no oil consumption issues either, but for how I drive, I figured synthetics weren't worth the extra cost...

What are you going on about? The guy really, really likes his Amsoil and that's all he like to talk about. Gosh.

(BTW - I'll PM my address so I can get that free case of Amsoil - that **** is so good I put it on my cereal)

Re: Who is using Amsoil?

Amsoil is good... It has a nice additive package to balance detergents and anti wear additives. They do however get their claim to fame Group IV PAO base stock from none other than Exxon/Mobil. Not that it's a bad thing. It's pretty necessary actually since E/M is one of the few oil companies with the capacity to produce it. The smaller guys buy base stock from the likes of E/M and Chevron and then blend in their own additives to create 'Their' formula. If the smaller guys can do it, surely their big dollar supplier can do it as well.

Re: Who is using Amsoil?

Over 300,000 kms on my 302 ford. Only oils I have ever used are noname brand or others that are on sale in the big box stores. This poor motor has been pretty low on oil about three times do to unseen oil leaks. But it still runs fine and does not smoke or use oil.

Good point on the dino oils.. We have trucks at work with well over 300k miles. The only oil we've ever used on our fleets is just plain Northland 10w30. Never any oil related issues...

Re: Who is using Amsoil?

Something to ponder...Amsoil is a small company with only blending facilities, they don't have refineries to produce synthetic base stock oils.. Who do they buy these pao base stock oils from???

Their major supplier of PAO base stock is Exxon/Mobil, the largest producer of synthetic oils in the world. They purchase some Group III base stocks from Shell, Petro Canada, and others. About 90% of their additive packages come from Lubrizoil.

They also sell vitimins. Altrum is a division of Amsoil. I guess if these are anything like their oil claims you take them and live forever.

Re: Who is using Amsoil?

If my turbo smokes to hell and GM finds that I'm using Amsoil snake oil, will they still honor the warrantee? Maybe; Maybe not. If I use the stuff that's printed on my oil cap (Mobil 1), then there's no arguing the point with the dealership if it should ever happen. It's their baby. It's not worth me taking the risk just to give the wonderful people at the snake oil factory my business.

I own 7 vehicles and 4 times more than that in the past. I blew 1 engine in 32 years and that was in a VW bus (what else?). Never used snake oil in any of them. Where would the benefit be in using it over something that the vehicle manufacturer ACTUALLY recommends? Is this one of those "secrets" that Detroit, Tokyo and Seoul don't want you to know about because snake oil will magically make your vehicle last for 500,000mi? I think not.

I guess that I can say that I do not use Amsoil and probably never will.

Re: Who is using Amsoil?

I'm sure its very good $, but I use Pennzoil yb 5w-30 and purolator on my Chevy 5.3, 88k miles and only had a water pump, thats it. No other non maintenance repair, GM doing it right for me.

Now if I had a Corvette, then maybe, I would flip for a more expensive elixir for kicks.
