Upgraded brake rotor and pad questions
Does anyone have any experience doing this? If so, what are the brands to look for and the ones to look out for. Also what are the average prices so I know I won't be getting ripped off. I have a 2005 Grand Prix GTP and the factory brake and the one you get from Midas are crap.
Thanks, Brent |

As far as Rotors I recommend either looking online for those or call around a few places and compare prices. Either way look for ones with that are slotted like these http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...=393&catid=138 (the slots besides improving performance also serve as a wear indicator for the rotor) slotted and drilled ones are even better in terms of stopping power but that depends on your budget. Heres what ZZP offers in terms of brakes for your car. (they're aftermarket parts) http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...cts.php?id=138 As for pad material it depends on your preference. when I got my front disc brakes done I swapped out the semi metallics and got Duralast gold ceramic pads for 35 bucks from autozone (the non C max version). the difference in braking performance isn't night and day but I do notice that the Ceramics have more initial bite and slightly better stopping power than the semi metallics.

Re: Upgraded brake rotor and pad questions
Drilled and slotted rotors have virtually no performance benefit to a typical street car application; regardless of how much performance driving you feel that you do. They are on race cars simply due to the extreme temperatures that those systems reach.
If you want to go to that style of rotor, stay with slots only. Don't get drilled rotors. Often, aftermarket companies have issues with rotors and the drilled ones often crack around the hole locations. An excellent slotted rotor is made by PowerSlot Rotors and excellent pads are made by Satisfied (either their Pro Ceramic or GrandSport lines) and Hawk Performance. Personally, I'd install Raybestos "Advanced Technology" rotors and the Pro Ceramic pads for your application. These rotors have an excellent coating applied to the hat and vane section to reduce corrosion and the surface finish is very good. The pads by Satisfied use a technology called NRS (NuCap Retention System) that mechanically bonds the pad to the backing plate; sort of like steel velcro, that really improves the stability of the pad material. Regards! |

Re: Upgraded brake rotor and pad questions
does like ClubGP know of an actual upgrade that consists of using larger calipers, pads, and rotors? Like on my E body Reatta, G/w body (like Aurora) hardware bolts up. Much larger stuff and no significant cost involved

Re: Upgraded brake rotor and pad questions
There you go. I wouldn't use crossdrilled rotors, exotic pads, etc, just stick with OEM grade Corvette stuff if that's indeed possible. Since this is a GTP in question it already should have 17''s

Re: Upgraded brake rotor and pad questions
PFYC.com has a few good rotors for sale.
I'm planning on sticking with factory pads all around - as the brake dust is minimal and then I was looking at those rotors on the site above are nickel over cadmium plating to reduce rust. Here's the link for those rotors - http://www.pfyc.com/pc/GP4902/04SUSP...rand+Prix.html |

Re: Upgraded brake rotor and pad questions
I've got Raybestos rotors and ceramic pads by Wagner. I needed something a bit better but still reasonable cost. I love the initial bite from the ceramic pads.

Re: Upgraded brake rotor and pad questions
Go check out r1 concepts, I have their eline cross drilled and slotted rotors and posi quiet ceramic pads, and my G6 stops so,so much better then the OEM brakes I couldn't believe it. I drive my car pretty aggressive and their fade free, no cracks, no nothing but smooth steady braking.
The rotors for your's would be 122.00 for the front and 45.50 for their posi quiet ceramic pads.
