I have an '06 Z-71 ext cab 5.3 HO.

Is there an easy way to get rid of the "torque management" program?

Re: Torque Management ?'s

I don't think there is torque managment on these trucks. Only on the new GMT900s. My dad has the H.O 5.3L, and when you step on it, it GOES!

GM needs to take that bull**************** software off of thier new trucks, and give there customers the HP they paid for.

Re: Torque Management ?'s

Oh, it's definately on the 99-07 classic trucks. It's the only way they can make the POS 4L60E survive. Like was said a few posts up, a good tuning program like HP Tuners, LS1edit, or EFI Live can get rid of it.

Re: Torque Management ?'s

I've heard of these programs or "tunes". They all seem to come from small outfits with questionable quality records. Can I remove TM with one of these hand held units made by, for example HyperChip?

Can I re-program in TM should I have a warranty problem? Will the truck's computer leave a record that TM was removed? I have also heard of problems of various check engine lights coming on with TM removal, also something about the crankshaft position sensor has to "re-learn" something.

Re: Torque Management ?'s

From what I know, actually, torque management only cuts power back when you shift. If you ask me, I'd rather be given the option of letting off the gas myself when caught in a shift, but for warranty purposes and practical use (just floor it) I'd leave the torque management

You raise some very good questions. I think that you may be able to learn more if you went to some truck forums, or GM-truck forums. They usually know more about this stuff, especially the technical part of the trucks.

I'd just google "chevy truck" or something like that and find some good forums. Either that or check out, www.gm-trucks.com (which is an especially good site).

Re: Torque Management ?'s

I have no idea about the "Hyperchip", whether it's an actual chip or a flash programmer..., but for flash programmers/handhelds in general:

"Can I re-program in TM should I have a warranty problem?" -- yes, you can return your vehicle to it's stock/original OEM tune when going in for service. I do this with mine using my DiabloSport Predator - when I tune my car, it saves the original/OEM stock tune to the handheld unit, and at the press of 2 buttons I can restore it.

"Will the truck's computer leave a record that TM was removed?" -- no, once your original/OEM stock tune is put back into the PCM, they can't tell a thing - it's like it was when you bought it.

"I have also heard of problems of various check engine lights coming on with TM removal" -- I'm not sure - I haven't heard of this happening with TM removal.

"crankshaft position sensor has to 're-learn' something" -- no, not if you're tuning your existing/original PCM that's in your vehicle now. If you do a mail-order tune and get a new core PCM, then yes, you will have to have the CASE relearn done by your dealer, or someone with a TechII scanner. But if you buy tuning software or a handheld unit, like the Predator, it modifies the tune in your original PCM, so there's no need for a CASE relearn.

Hope that clears up some issues/questions for ya.

;-)

Re: Torque Management ?'s

so your saying its a better idea to just leave it? what would be the benefits/risks of removing it?

Re: Torque Management ?'s

I would say you could take some out - it'll give you more acceleration, quicker throttle response... if you got the Predator for your truck (http://diablosport.com/index.php?mod...display&pid=65) you can do a whole bunch of things. The performance tunes that come on it will probably add another 20+hp and tq to your setup.

But go over to their forums (http://diablosport.com/index.php?module=pnphpbb2), join and post any questions you may have, Mike or Johan will respond pretty quickly to your info request.

"06 Monte SS",
Thanks a lot. You've given out more info than my reading several pages of "searches" somewhere else.

"Mike at Diablo"
I'm all ears. Or, would that be "all eyes"?

No problem Fish! -- although the Predator model for your truck may be different than chakis24's that I posted, since you have a different model year - this is probably yours - http://www.diablosport.com/index.php...display&pid=64

Anyway - I like to give back when I can since I've learned and gained so much insight myself from forums such as these.

My (limited) knowledge comes from several months of just perusing forums, posting questions to folks in those forums, gathering info, and talking with people like Mike from Diablosport to gain further clarification on what I wasn't sure about.

After all was said and done, with all of the info I compiled, and based on MY tuning needs - the excellent responses/customer service I received from Mike (even before I WAS a customer) led me to my decision to purchase the Predator. Mike is an awesome guy and will provide you with any answers he can. (I am in not affiliated with Diablosport - I am just a VERY satisfied customer)

I will be happy to offer up any and all tuning info that I can (if Mike doesn't beat me to it - ). I even have some of my own tuning docs that I created/compiled from info I gathered up around the forums if anyone is interested.

Thanks!

p.s. - it'd be cool to get a "Tuning" section started on this site, it's got everything else!

yeah, ive seen those handhelds before, there expensive tho. ive also heard of custom tuning (such as wait4me and wheatley). can i do that with the predator, or are there only preset tunes? i still dont understand the risk or benefits of taking out the torque management tho. can it hurt my tranny?
