Is there anyway to gut the airbox on a 01 malibu LS??
Hi guys I'm thinking about putting a little more zip to the Bu's 3.1 liter V6. I already plan on getting a K&N air filter to replace the current paper filter when It comes time to discard it. According to K&M (I emailed them) the filter should give me a 1 to 4 horsepower boost. However I have also been thinking about gutting the airbox. Warranty issues aside is it possible to gut the 3.1 liter? I hear the air intake on that engine is very restrictive and it would be nice to have better acceleration for freeway driving. and if it is possible can i get step by step instructions so i can do it properly.

Take a big drill bit to it and make the side before the filter like swiss cheese. I did it with my Explorer's intake box and it made a little difference. You get that cool induction sound too
