STS Universal Turbo System

So I was looking at getting a little more power out of my 99 S-10 4.3 ZR-2. I was first considering dropping in a 350 because it wouldn't be that hard of a build but then I got to thinking about a turbo.

I've been looking and STS seems to be the system to go with. Since no one makes a kit for S10s, I have been looking at their universal system-http://www.ststurbo.com/universal_system

Does anyone have any experience with fabricating/mocking up a universal turbo? It looks fairly simple but I would like to know what I'm dealing with before I do it.

Thanks for the help guys.

Re: STS Universal Turbo System

If I were you, I would drop in a V8 before I started messing with turbos. I thought my old 4.3L S10 was a beast until I had it dynoed and it was only putting 75hp to the rear wheels, talk about a kick to the groin. Don't waist your money.

Ouch, what year was it? Did you ever tune it or was there any significant wear on the engine? That's extremely low considering the stock flywheel hp is near 200.

I am just thinking about this turbo kit because it will probably be cheaper than dropping in a 350 and it would have better fuel economy.

It was a 1988 S10 4x4 with a K&N filter and catback exhaust system. The guys that did the dyno said that the numbers were pretty close to what they expected. To say the least, I was very dissapointed.

I think you could get a 350 and all the adapters much cheaper than a turbo kit with much better gains.

Well the STS system with around 6 pounds of boost would probably push 300hp but could easily have more if I upped the boost to 12. The basic universal without all the piping and whatnot is 2000 but the better stage 3 is 3000.

Re: STS Universal Turbo System

Actually, that's not too bad of a price. I wonder how much the installation would cost? Were you going to do it yourself?

Yea I thought it was a pretty good price. I would probably try to do most of the work myself, but some buddies at my dealership that I work out would probably help me out for a little bit of nothing.

Re: STS Universal Turbo System

Arnt the STS turbos the ones that are mounted off the exhaust in the rear of the vehicle? I have always been suspicious of those systems!

The system is actually pretty great and designed to not crack if it hits water and so forth, the system has been in many magazines and they give it positive revues, as compared to other systems and since they offer universal systems, they offer more to the customer

STS turbos are very good. Hey fender, give allen at www.nelsonperformance.com a call, or email him. He is very knowledgeable.

I bet you could do it yourself, too.
