I-5 upgrades?

Anyone done any performance testing with mods to the Tonnawanna NY made I-5?
The engine used in the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon and standard H3 is gaining in unit #'s. The 220 CI motor was recently beefed up to 242 CI to give it a little more kick.
Wondering if anyone has had any sucess doing any tooling around with thiers. Or heard anything promising...

Re: I-5 upgrades?

go to coloradofans forum and they have lots of topics regarding performance mods. There are the usual cold air kits, exhaust, and computer mods available.

Re: I-5 upgrades?

Saw that thanks. Was hoping for a little more than advance air and muffler systems. Guess it may take some time for this motor to get the real mechanics in there and see what can be improved over the engineers

If you delve deeper into "Modifications - Performance" forum on ColoradoFans.com, there's alot of information about super/turbo chargers and exhaust -- not so much dyno comparisons but personal experiences. There's a few engine swap threads too, including a 3.7L I5 into an earlier 5spd Colorado. There's been alot of "real mechanics" digging into the engine, but most high power adding results haven't been overly positive -- ie blown engines.

Re: I-5 upgrades?

I'm on both boards, and I am not sure of much anyone has done besides put on some superchargers and the like with the I-5's.

Re: I-5 upgrades?

Here I was thinking you were talking about Interstate 5!? DOH! lol...I was wondering where the upgrades were gonna happen as to state...Washington, Oregon or California.
Then it dawned on me you were talking about an Inline 5 cylinder engine. hehe. Especially, since this thread is in the Performance Technical Discussion section.

I'll consider it a sleepy blond moment. :P

Re: I-5 upgrades?

Thats about the size of it. Sandbags are the extent of the upgrades on both the GM I5 engine and Interstate I 5...
