I'm trying to decide on these....Air Raid, S&B Performance, and True Flow? Any suggestions would help...!

Re: Which Cold Air Intake?

I cannot say enough good things about the AEM Brute Force air intakes. I love mine, it was easy to install, and gave me a lot of top end bang for the buck.

Re: Which Cold Air Intake?

GMPP CAI on mine. Very nice and it's a GM approved product, no potential warranty issues.

Re: Which Cold Air Intake?

What proven performance results are out there on these CAI?
If they worked wouldn't GM make them stock!

Re: Which Cold Air Intake?

I put on the full K&N cold air system, and love it!!!! Well worth the money. Its the cone filter and heat shield but also you replace the plastic stock tubing with all of the baffles and wasted space and replace it with a straight piece of 4" tubing that goes straight to the throtle body. even with a stock exhaust, you can feel it from the first time you step on the gas and gives the truck a nice throaty sound before you even put on a aftermarket exhaust.

Lotsa luck! I guess that you don't plan on keeping your vehicle very long.
Ask K & N what their air flow is, as the filter gets plugged with air-born dirt?
Ask them what particle size their filter will keep out of your engine?
Ask them if their 100,000 mile warranty is on their filter, or your engine?
And lastly, ask them what GM says about the engine warranty, if your
K & N gets over-oiled when you clean it?

I don't think you will get answers from them that you can bank on, on any of these issues!
The was an extensive air filtration test done some time ago, that is not
on line any more.
See if you can find a copy. It is the ISO Duramax Test Report, and it used to be at: http://home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm

That report will open your eyes alot!!!!!

FWIW, take a look at the evolution of stock factory air cleaners from the 1960s through today.
60s: one intake about 8" or less in length, coming out of the round filter. If that ain't a HAI, I haven't seen one.
70s-80s: longer intake tubes, sometimes two long intake tubes that may get cooler air but sometimes are oddly skinny (Buick's new [1968?] 430 IIRC, for one) then eventually a long fabric hose that functions as a CAI.
90s-present: Boxes or intakes positioned at the front of the engine.

As for Jason, I believe he's been suspended without pay from GMI...

Go to K&N's website and take a look at their Intake Kits. They show dynos for each particular kit. Some people will say that you can cheat and make any dyno graph look good, but I do know that K&N guarantees you will make power. In my previous job I had done literally thousands of runs on a DynoJet chassis dyno and have seen the results myself. People talk about mass air sensors getting fowled because of the oil, but its usually because when they wash their filter and re-oil it, they over oil it which can cause problems. Anyways, They do make power, some vehicles more than others. What it comes down to is how restrictive the stock air cleaner is!

What you have to be careful about is doing multiple mods and thinking you can add the power from each mod, such as intake - 10HP, exhaust - 10 hp, programmer/chip - 10HP, add them up you have 30HP more. It doesn't work that way. I've tested on a dyno a vehicle that might make 10-15hp more with an intake for example, then install a power programmer/chip and the vehicle loses everything it gained. Most manufacturers Test their products on a stock vehicle, so if you change one piece of that puzzle it changes the results once you start adding other mods. Todays vehicles are more sensitive to change than ever before. A lot of todays cars come with a Bosch Style mass air sensor, which is really sensitive and too much air can actually lose HP and set off MIL's.
