Cool 67 Camaro LS1/T56 Swap, IT RUNS!!!!!

We are almost done now, the car is running, and it sounds sweet. Almost 3 months into this swap, and the end is in sight. We hope to be done with this phase of the project in the next few weeks. Please check out our fquick site for pics and vids of our project...

very cool, a local guy has done the same thing with his 69 Chevelle, but he went with a carb setup on his LS1. He told me he went with the carb setup so he wouldnt have top pay for the stand alone harness and computer, but I think the carb kit for the LS1's are almost as much.

You can order an LS enging, the LS 364/440, with a carb setup directly form Gm Performances Parts. I think they even offered a carb version of the LS1 in the past.

Re: 67 Camaro LS1/T56 Swap, IT RUNS!!!!!

We have driven almost 1K miles on the swap now, and are happy to report that we are getting 27mpg! This car is poised, confident, quite, responsive, and fun! She has been very well received at several local car shows, and got a LOT of questions all three days at CarCraft Nationals. The T56 really is a nicely thought out gear box. With the fat torque curve of the LS1, the trans can never be in the worng gear, and even with the 3.08 rear, the car has a lot of get up and go.

Re: 67 Camaro LS1/T56 Swap, IT RUNS!!!!!

Not when its in Jersey! Way to long of a commute. Working on a fourth gen right now, and then I have to do a 61 Buick before I can get back to my poor Impala!

There are a few people doing or already done swapping into a second gen right now, and it doesn't look too painful. Headers seem to be the biggest issue from what I have read, but it is doable. Go to LS1tech.com and look for second gens under the Conversions/Hybrids section. There are a few, and most of the guys are more than happy to help! Don't overlook an LT1/LT4 swap either, even easier, and getting downright cheap!

Congrads on hearing that man! Looks of a First gen+power/reliability of a 4th gen=awesome!
I know when I did an LT1/T56 swap into my '88 Trans Am it was a fairly new swap that was being undertaken, but with the T56 and the stock 2.73 gears I was cruising down the highway at 80, at abour 1200 RPM's. I estimate that I was getting around 30-32 MPG highway, before I played chicken with a tree...and lost!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

You have a 1961 Buick LeSabre!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm freakin' out over here.

Nuts to the Camaro, the real gem is that pretty lady.

Yours is the four door sedan, as mine is the two door hardtop, but it's close enough!

The same exact interior, too! Right down to the color!

Re: 67 Camaro LS1/T56 Swap, IT RUNS!!!!!

The LeSabre has definately grown on me, but it is NOT going to be a fun car to work with. Parts are hard to find and pricey when you do! Hope to have some time next spring to get the nailhead running and find out if the dynaflight is any good. The interior isn't too bad off, and there is a bit of body work and suspension work to do. Someday, that daughter will decide the car is important again and want to sork on it, until then, we will hold onto it for her....
