2006 Chevy 1500 Leveling KIT

I wanted to level my 2006 Chevy 1500 Silverado 4WD truck and was told that the torsion bar keys cause extreme stress on the CV joints and that they will break. Has anyone been told this before?

Re: 2006 Chevy 1500 Leveling KIT

they more than likely wont break, unless youre consistently doing competitive rock racing or something.

ive had mine cranked for 70k miles or so, and have had bigger tires on there for a long time and ive had no problems. and its more than a street truck.

Re: 2006 Chevy 1500 Leveling KIT

It is a cumulative impact issue. With keys only you're unlikely to see CV shaft failures. However, as the wheel size/width/weight increases so does the stress upon the steering and suspension components. Keys do increase the operating angle of the CV joints, however it is still within the acceptable range. If the shafts and joints are in good condition you're unlikely to see a failure. However if you run larger tires, off-road often in really rough stuff, or like going through mud, be very careful.

I did a mild 2 1/2 turns on my H3's Tbar adjusters to almost level it and then had the front end aligned. No problems after 72k miles.

Cranking the bars works, but using indexing keys maintains the adjustability of the preload bolts.

Re: 2006 Chevy 1500 Leveling KIT

I cranked mine on my truck, just use a measuring tape before and after to make sure your good.

It took an extra 2 turns on the passenger side to reach level. So make sure you measure.

The front end of mine is about 0.5" lower than the front, so its not completley level, but you cant tell unless you have a measuring tape.

It looks 1000x better too, and hasn't seem to affect the ride or anything.
