Top Gear to Channel Nine with Shane Warne to host ...

Hmmmmm...

http://www.news.com.au/entertainment...013560,00.html

Quote:
SHANE Warne has carved a new career as a cricket commentator and poker player but now is rumoured to be the next host of revheads' TV favourite, Top Gear.
Warne, whose stable of luxury cars includes a head-turning black Lamborghini Superleggera, is set to front a new series with Jeremy Clarkson.
He is believed to be hosting six episodes of the popular motoring show.
In a TV coup Channel Nine is believed to have snared the rights to the motoring franchise from SBS.
Nine and SBS were both believed to have been in discussions with BBC Worldwide, which owns the rights to the motoring show fronted by Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
First-run episodes of Top Gear regularly top one million viewers on SBS.
Nine has confirmed that it has held discussions with Warne to host Top Gear Australia.
No formal agreement has yet been signed, but he is their pick to host the series.
A Nine source says an agreement is likely to be completed within days.

Channel Nine would not confirm any plans for Top Gear.

No deal has been signed, however a Nine source said an agreement was likely to be completed within days.
The role would mark the first TV presenting gig for Warne - who has previously worked in cricket commentating roles.
Warne's collection of luxury cars started in 1996 when he bought a Ferrari 355 Spider.
He has since bought another Ferrari – a 360 Spider in titanium – two Mercedes four-wheel-drives, two BMWs, and a Holden VK Commodore.
But it hasn't all been smooth sailing for Warne, who made headlines last year when he crashed his Mercedes into a tram.

The Aussie version has had two seasons on SBS, fronted by Steve Pizzati, Warren Brown and this year joined by James Morrison.

So do I.... this is all we need, a local personality to 'translate' for us and give an inane introduction and explanation at the start and end of each show. The shows will probably be edited to fit Warne and the ads.

Fortunately the commercial channels have a poor history when it comes to car shows... we can only hope the average channel 9 viewer heads off somewhere else and they give the show back to SBS.

Re: Top Gear to Channel Nine with Shane Warne to host ...

I really enjoyed Warnie's commentary during the Ashes, and I have always had a soft spot for him even when he was being bad (he's a Victorian !!) but I fear that this would not be a good match.

I actually thought the second series with James Morrison was good more than it was bad. I enjoyed all the shows they did. I would hate to think they are going to trash that combination before they let it mature.

You can see how bad the early Top Gear UK shows were when SBS show the 'classic' shows like they are showing now.

The early ones were great as they had a certain rawness to them it is the latest ones I dislike -they remind me of private school kids.

I wonder how long it will be before they do a story on how to change your Valvoline "You know what I mean?" motor oil which you can purchase at Supercheap Auto with your Visa Debit Card? This question was proudly brought to you by the class leading Toyota Corolla which will be part of the fleet driven by the Australian Cricket team from Melbourne to Sydney next week. Don't forget to watch the test on Nine this weekend followed by another hilarious episode of Two and a Half Men.

Re: Top Gear to Channel Nine with Shane Warne to host ...

In more encouraging news, I just saw the new promo for channel 7's new digital channel, 7 Two. Right near the end, up pops Fifth Gear with Vicki's face. We will finally get to see (probably really old) episodes on Free to Air.

Run the promo video here

http://au.tv.yahoo.com/seven-two/

Looks like Thursday 5th Nov at 7.30
