Mitsubishi made a crucial counter-attack to its Australian large-car manufacturing rivals this morning at the Australian International Motor Show with its supercharged Team Mitsubishi Ralliart 380.

Still fending off speculation this week that its manufacturing future in Australia is in doubt, and having been forced in recent months to contend with the arrival of the Toyota Aurion, Holden VE Commodore and Ford BFII Falcon, Mitsubishi returned the attention of the crowd at the Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre back to the 380.

A supercharged 380 TMR adds punch to Mitsubishi's large car lineup.

Mitsubishi is determined to convert the TMR 380 motor show concept revealed in Sydney this morning into a production vehicle.

The fiery red 380 features a supercharged version of the 3.8-litre V6 engine developed by West Australian-based specialiast Sprintex. Power increases by 31 per cent to 230kW and torque by 29 per cent to 442Nm.

Um, where is the supercharger? Is Mitsubishi lying? Looks like the stock black airbox feeds directly into the intake tube that goes to the intake manifold.

Nice numbers, even though they need to supercharge the engine to get them.

That's 308 horsepower and 326 lb-ft. Nice, but too bad the car stinks.

I like the Supercharged Toyota Aurion better, but this is a nice looking car, although its kinda plain, with a couple of turboVette hood scoops.

this gets a big MEH from me.

Sorry Mitsubishi, sell your Aussie factory back to Chrysler so they can start building Valiants again. A car that will actually sell.
