Sydney Motor Show: Ford Performance Vehicles New Force 6 & Force 8

FPV Force Gunning For HSV Senator

Mike Sinclair
26 October 2006
www.carpoint.com.au

FPV’s new Force prestige performance sedan has swapped the spoilers and stripes for a touch of class.

Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) has added a premium performance sedan to its hotshoe Falcon range. The new car, dubbed Force was caught in the open earlier this week by keen FordForum 'posters'. We can confirm now that it will be offered in both turbocharged six-cylinder and V8 powered versions. The Force twins join the GT-P as the co-flagships of the FPV range.

The Force 6 and Force 8 are aimed four-square at Holden Special Vehicle’s (HSV) $76,990 Senator Signature in terms of performance, equipment and price. Sitting at the top of the nine-model FPV range, the cars feature a toned down colour pallette and eschew the overt spoilers and stripes of FPV’s core products.

FPV Unleashes New Forces Into Luxury-Performance Market

Jez Spinks
26 October 2006
www.drive.com.au

Ford Performance Vehicles is chasing the HSV Senator and Euro luxury brands with two Falcons that are focused as much on luxury as they are on performance.

FPV's new Force 8 and Force 6 models will be more interested in pinstripes than GT stripes when they take on luxury-performance rivals in the battle for the corporate-executive dollar.

The Force cars, launched today at the Sydney motor show, aim to be more appealing performance Falcons to executive buyers by offering more subtle styling than the brash brothers they are based on - the GT-P (Force 8) and F6 Typhoon (Force 6).

I love those Fords, they actually look better than the new Holdens.

I'm not very impressed with their looks, actually. I think the new Holdens are more interesting looking and have a more modern appearance.

I agree, I think they look dated already like late 90's early 2000's models. They are in some respects better then the Fords we have in the States, but I think the Fusion looks more modern then these.

Better in some respects? From an enthusiast standpoint, I can't imagine any American Ford sedan that I would take over these (discounting the Lincoln LS, which I believe has ended production). I think they look subtle rather than dated, which is very cool considering their performance potential.

That's because they are... the mid section is the AU Falcon of 1998 with the rest getting a major update in 2002.

I don't believe the Falcon looks dated, either. It won't start any trends, but there's a subtle menace and athleticism about the Falcon's exterior that nothing in Ford's current US porfolio begins to touch. The interior isn't even a contest; success or not, I think the Fusion's blocky interior aesthetic a questionable match to the rest of the car while the Falcon again takes every current US Ford to school with a coherent, high quality design. The only aspect about the Fusion I think make it more modern is the jeweled treatment of its exterior lights, which really isn't much of an issue when you consider that recent automobile facelifts often consisted of more upscale light treatments.

Nice to see the FPVs without the gaudy kit. However, I must admit that I also favor the Holdens.

I'm with you. I keep wondering why the Australian cars, whether it be Holden or Ford, look so 1990s. Maybe its just the local tastes?

Not sure, but everything down there seems a decade old in the styling department.

Good looking sedans IMO. As stated above, they might not start trends, but there's a clean subtle, yet muscular look about them and I bet when you jump on the go pedal, they'll go like stink.

The lines look more like the last gen Commodore. Ford needs a new Falcon, and quick. But as for performance, no doubt they kick butt.

I'm sorry but Austrialian cars by both Holden and Ford look dated in design.

I've always been a big fan of clean, non-cluttered designs with a hint of aggression. Thats what these deliver. Just enough to let people in-the-know know what they're messing with, but the cops will leave you alone.

You Americans are never statisfied.
Compared to the ugly, front wheel drive, poorly built the big 2 sell there these are catwalk models.

I guess thats why BMW and Mercedes sell so many subtly styled sports sedans in America.
People able to afford them must have bad taste.
