Re: A present for mikmak

Ah, the XU-1 was an amazing little rocket for its heyday.

I first drove a 6 cylinder Torana quickly down through the road through the "Gardens" in Darwin. I made the comment to Mike Izod, the Dealer, that this car will attract a lot of people to Holden.

It became a part of Holden Folklore

I can't help thinking that the brakes were getting a little warm on the XU1. It does show how good a car the 37 year old is. Still form the days when what you raced Sunday could be bought on Monday and neither had roll cages.
One of the cars I learned to drive in was a LinaMint LC Toranra GTR that my brother owned. Nicest colour even when faded a little.

I actually "met" GMWAGN (The guy that made the station wagon 'tube, at another forum that I visit from time to time imaginatively titled stationwagonforums.com. He sent me a link to Streetwagons.com and I joined about 4 days ago. GMWAGN just picked himself up a Calais V Sportwagon (Phantom Mica of course). Nice guy too.

Thanks for posting. It's got my juices going for the ever delayed Ozmosis project.

XU2 [was that a real thing?]sounded awesome!

People refer to the LJ V8 XU1 prototypes built by Harry Firth as the XU2 but others say it was only ever applied to the LH range. There seems to be strong support for 200 XU2 badges having been made, which was the number needed for homologation, which I think lends support to the XU2 originally being the name that was going to apply to the LJ V8 until the supercar scare. Then they were going to use the name on the LH until someone decided to distance them from the controversy and went with SL/R 5000.

My understanding is there was also an XU2 V8 engined GTR-X in addition to the XU1 engined prototype we've all seen.....

Re: A present for mikmak

Still in love with the GTR-X. A great design for the time. Ever heard of anyone having built their own?

Re: A present for mikmak

With those skinny wheels it reminds me of the electric cars you see heading South from Darwin.
