But I have to clear up a misconception: the first Holden WAS NOT based on the "Chevrolet Cadet" it was based on an older design for a compact Chevy or Buick.

The Cadet was an entirely different project and had no links to Holden whatsoever.

Here's the Cadet story...

I apologise for the jpg format.

didnt read the article but the Chev Cadet became the Ford Zephyr when McPherson (of struts fame) went to Ford.
the earlier Chev you mention is probably project 195y - which in turn was an experimental machine to follow on with work on the Opel Olympia and discover if a light six in a light car (due to integral construction) was better than a four. opel followed up with the Super Six and Kapitan, these and the Chev proving the point and the Holden 48-215 being the result.

I'll read the article when i'm at home. Thanks T-Rex.

I'm just researching GM V8 engines. Cadillac had a 346 flathead until 1948 when it was replaced by the 331 OHV engine as a '49.

But there was also the Oldsmobile 303 'Rocket' OHV V8 engine came out in 1949. If we are re-writing history then some early test runs of one of these engines would have been shipped to OZ for a top end option in the new 1948 Holden Monaro.

Maybe some of our American friends could tell us which of these two engines could be made to produce the most power.

The Olds Rocket is my suggestion for the Olds Rod from earlier in this thread.
Mind you I was thinking a 60s/early 70s Rocket...... but maybe the late 40s/early 50s version may fit the Rod better, esp if attempting a RatRod.
