I'm not sure I'd be too trusting of any sort of automotive transaction involving South Africa. The county seems to be an origin of quite a few eBay Motors payment scams, to say nothing of all the emails I get from their "financial dignitaries"...

The Landau's cool (in a sort of *******ized Torino/Falcon/LTD way), but my heart's set on one of those Falcon GT sedans. There's something to be said about having the four-door equivalent of a '71 Mustang Mach One...

Brock Legacy - Values Soar For Race Champ's Machines

Ashlee Pleffer
20 April 2007
www.carsguide.com.au

Since the passing of racing legend Peter Brock, most things connected to his name have more than doubled in value. Particularly the cars he made famous.

As a friend and fan of Brock, Len Pennisi not only owns and treasures his three Brock Commodores, he's also keeping the Brock memory alive through Brock's former company, HDT Special Vehicles based at Revesby.

Pennisi and his brother Sid bought the HDT Special Vehicles company in 1994.

“It always was a legacy to keep the cars going the same way he did it, exactly the way he ran it, with enthusiasm and passion. And to make sure people have the parts to keep these cars on the road,” he says.

Not only does he own the company, he also raced VC Commodores himself and currently owns three Brock Commodores; a white VK group III model, a red VH and a white VC.

He says through HDT — where they fix, provide spare parts and build and sell Brock Commodores — they've seen the cars recently boom in popularity.

Re: Booming Nostalgia: Classic Aussie Muscle Cars Worthy Investments

I saw a story on "A Current Affair" the other night (crap show but good story) on a Holden dealer in some little country town. He'd been the local dealer for around 60 years and had bought one of each of holdens cars since around the FB/EK era. He has a massive shed full of mint condition cars and a 5 door garage to top it off. Those I saw included a HK GTS Monaro, Torana GTR and No. 49 FX-215 (which he thinks is worth "a million bucks" ). Any way, he is keen to sell them all. I'd bet he has a lot of offers already!

Aussie Muscle Prices Softer At Auction

Chris Gable
08 May 2007
www.wheelsmag.com.au

A restored Ferrari Dino has comprehensively upstaged the Australian muscle cars at auction in Sydney. The Torana expected to establish a benchmark price for XU-1s fetched $75,000.

Aussie muscle cars fetched good prices – but nowhere near the $600,000-plus recently paid for a GTHO Phase III Falcon – at last night’s Shannons Autumn Sydney auction.

The original-condition 1973 LJ Torana GTR XU-1 (pictured) that was expected to set a benchmark price for XU-1s in the wake of the record price paid for the Phase III brought $75,000. The car was Juniper Green metallic with Doeskin and Chestnut upholstery.

A Glacier White 1973 Torana L34 sedan modified to A9X spec and fitted with a T5 five-speed gearbox (pictured) brought $60,000, and a low-mileage GT Silver XT GT Ford Falcon – believed to be the second example built in March 1968 – sold for $40,000.

The potential Aussie muscle stand-out car for the night – an Inca Gold 1969 Monaro GTS 327 in good condition – was passed in for just under $120,000. However, Shannons says the car should sell after the auction.

The 73 Prem for 5000 would be a nice pick up too.

Those HBs were scary cars.

Values Rise For The Original Holden's

Ashlee Pleffer
18 May 2007
www.carsguide.com.au

When talking classic cars, you can't go past the early Holden models. Pioneering the automotive industry in Australia, Holden has created some durable and special vehicles since its beginning.

Perhaps none are as special as the FX Holden, the first automobile for the car company.

Holden began production of the FX (which was known at the time as the 48-215) in 1948, with 163 existing in total and only 112 of those released to dealers as demonstrator models.

An FX didn't reach a private buyer until January 1949 and they were then produced right up to 1953 when the FJ took over.

And while you may be able to find FX models from the later years, you'll struggle to find one of the originals.

Of the models released to dealers in 1948, perhaps only nine still exist.

$750,000 For 36-Year-Old Ford Falcon

Joshua Dowling
3 June 2007
www.smh.com.au

Car collector Harry Christian has sold a Ford Falcon that cost $5000 new for a record $750,000.

But it's not just any Falcon, it's one of a limited number of specially built road cars modified for use on a racetrack - a 1971 GTHO Phase III.

Just 300 such Falcons were made in the early 1970s and experts believe fewer than 100 remain.

The previous record amount paid for a Falcon GTHO was $683,000 at a Bonhams and Goodman auction in March. That car was bought by a Queensland collector who last year also bought the last Holden Monaro built.

The announcement of last week's record sale price came as new figures show muscle cars are becoming a better investment than shares or property.

Spare a thought for the poor bugger who had his 1 in 4 Phase4 GTHO written-off for him years ago. He'd be screaming now!

Classic Horsepower At Flemington

CarPoint Editor
27 June 2007
www.carpoint.com.au

The third Shannons Classic Australian Car Show moves to a new venue.

Once again, Shannons will be supporting the Classic Australian Car Show, which this year moves to the Flemington Racecourse.

Muscle cars will be a major drawcard for the event, appearing in a separate section, which the organisers have called the Muscle Car Corral. On display, there'll be GT Falcons, Monaros, XU-1 Toranas and 'Six-Pack' Chargers.

The show -- and recent auction prices for classic Aussie cars -- indicates that the interest in these machines has never been greater. According to Shannons, GT Falcons are fetching as much as half a million dollars or more for an XY GT HO Phase III (pictured). Incredible, but true.

Similarly, old Monaros (yellow 327 GTS HK pictured) are selling for vast sums of money and an E38 Charger R/T recently sold for $140,000.

Over 400 vehicles are expected to be entered and -- as well as the muscle cars -- will include restored cars, custom cars and new models from the four local manufacturers.

For those who hanker after curiosities, the stillborn Leyland P76 coupe, the Force 7V, will be present in its original pre-production form. It will be in with the P76 sedans.

The event will be held on July 22, with spectators allowed entry from 10.30 am. Cost is $12 per adult and children under 14 free. For further information, ring (03) 9890 0524 or check out www.allmakesswapmeet.com.au.

Australian Car Advice
4 July 2007
www.caradvice.com.au

These are the cars you may have long since sold, and now deeply regret thanks to the phenomenal price tags they now demand.

Also note the fact that they are not numbered, after all the price is demanded by the sentimental worth of the car and not the metal which holds it together.

There are so many more, but these are the cars that ignited the Australian muscle car culture which is still very much a part of our lives today.
