Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here
I dont think the US will happen any time soon. Sure, they have the GTO, but how many of them really want to see a commodore they can't have.
Not that this would happen due to cost, but it would be cool to see the V8 Brutes with a round over there if they started selling utes over there. |

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here
What do you blokes think about a street race around Sydney's Olympic Park?
I think it would be great. A good replacement for Oran Park. ![]()

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here
Ultimately i think another international event would replace Oran Park, with the contractual situation at Eastern Creek, they would be more likely to axe that for a Homebush street race.
I saw a proposed track layout for the Homebush idea, and it neither looked exciting nor boring, so whilst from a spectators point of view it'd be better than the other regional NSW events, the racing would probably be worse. |

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here
They can't replace Oran Park with a International round. It must be local and preferably in Sydney.
AVESCO, by their agreement with CAMS, has got to have 10 Australian based rounds, with a maximum of 4 international rounds. AVESCO wants to keep two round in Sydney so Eastern Creek will stay. The diagram show an Olympic Park track doesn't look that great but neither does Indy. It would be as big an event as the Adelaide 500. I heard Mark Skaife talking about a V8 Supercars 24 Hour race the other week on RPM. That would be great at Olympic Park with so many spectaters living so close to Homebush. A real night out on the piss! ![]()

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here
Indy at least has the chicanes, and its along the beach though.
AVESCO's agreement only states how many local rounds, not specifically where they have to be. Considering they only got about 20,000 on race day at EC this year, is it really worth it? I too would like a 24hr race, considering it would require engine and transmission changes to make it to the end. But i think anywhere BUT Bathurst would just ruin the appeal of it. |

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here
I would like 24 hour race at Bathurst too but they would get greater crowds in Sydney's heart, plus Bathurst already has the 1000.

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here
Too bloody cold!
Chinamonty, Oran Park will host its last race in the next twelve months. Houses will replace it. Thats why AVESCO is looking for another Sydney circuit with Olympic Park the favourite. ![]()

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here
It amazes me that its taken HRT eleven years to win fifty Australian Touring Car/V8 Supercars rounds.
With HRT being so dominant over the last fifteen year or so you'd think they would have got there sooner. I'm a huge HRT fan, so well done HRT. I wonder which teams are running second and third in the race to fifty? Anyone? ![]()

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here
It was only really 1998-2002 they stamped their authority, early 90's DJR owned the scene and Glen Seton enjoyed success as well. With Craig Lowndes, HRT really took the bull by the horns, then Skaife stepped up after Lowndes left.

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here
Yeah. I thought DJR would be up there. And Perkins.
I wonder if Todd will jump over to the family team next year? He hasn't made his mind up yet, I think. ![]()
