Ah but I know you know its another Murray. And there is the (renamed) Brock Skyline, fittingly heading off into a blue horizon. How astral, almost polarising you could say. I saw Carter racing a Corvette only a few years ago, still out there lapping at over seventy years old. Geez the guy used to race Ford Customlines .. when they were new!

Trackside, my fave viewing possie at Bathurst used to be just above The Dipper, looking down on it. Watching the fast guys getting air. But in recent years that view of what is now called VB Dipper has been completely blocked by .. you guessed it .. a bloody huge VB billboard. So your only alternative these days is to guzzle another tinnie and try and beer-visualise

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here

Lowndes is pretty good in the wet. Greg Murphy also cuts smooth lines, may suit this circuit?

Can't wait to see who's the first to punt Skaiffe off into the boonies. Will it be Ambrose (again) or Old Dependable, the Enforcer

Maybe you could give us a history of the names around Mt Panorama - Murray's used to be refered to as Pit Corner but I have seen stuff from the first Gallaher race that called it Murray's. Who was McPhillamy (I have stayed in his(her) park a couple of times.

Check this out for history. Bob Jane in a Cortina for instcance with Harry Firth and check out the warm up circuit on the map

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here

This is the Shanghai Circuit

A map of the track.

This one seems to show the shorter track shortcuts.

And here's a view of Bathurst, the greatest hillclimb racecircuit on earth. Although some Germans will dispute that.

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here

Mark Skaife is number one in Friday qualifying in Shanghai.

Lets hope he can win on race day. He's improving but still not to where he should be.

I've started a V8 Supercars News & Results thread for the 'Motorsports News' page. Its in 'Suggest A News Article' page until its moved. Continue posting all your V8 Supercars discussions here.

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here

Definately an interesting race, on performance it couldve gone to either Todd, Richards, Skaife, Ambrose or Lowndes but luck wasnt on the side of the latter 3, poor Lowndes. Ambrose will probably be wondering what happened, not in pitlane, but why the team literally ordered him in when he was in a position to make a jump. The sad part is, he probably got a quicker stop anyway, just it wasnt enough to count and in his haste he ruined it all for himself. If he couldve kept the pace up, he couldve gotten through behind Todd when Richo ran wide at turn one and maybe get on the podium. He wouldve been looking at being on the podium every round so far had that been the case, making it his best season to date. I dont know what went wrong with Skaife though, he'd had tyre/brake issues throughout the weekend, but untill he punted Ingall off he managed to keep it all together. I suppose he just puts it down to a judgement error, thinking Ingall would dive into pits with him.

Finally saw some news footage on the TV this morning on the English language channel CCTV-9. They gave it as much coverage as the F1 and the comments were positive. Shows what happens when 70,000 turn up to something new.

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here

AVESCO, by their agreement with CAMS, has got to have 10 Australian based rounds, with a maximum of 4 international rounds.

1 - New Zealand, 2 - China, 3 - Middle East, 4 - SE Asia.

What ya think?

I think Holden will like the looks of those Joe.....not too sure about Ford, but they'd probably go for it too.

The NZ round is severely under threat, but personally i'd rather NZ - China - UK - US. At least the UK and US will get excited over the race

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here

AVESCO will run races where Holden or Ford products are being sold.

Thats why China and Bahrain have races planned, or in China's case, gone.

With Holden now exporting to Malaysia and Thailand, a race in their region would be a great marketing move for them, and AVESCO.

The Yank members here at GMI might come to a US round, but the general public wouldn't be overly interested.

Re: All V8 Supercars Discussions Here

You never know, theres tonnes of fans in the US and UK and if the Statesman in China gives them a feasible reason to race in China, then the Vauxhall Monaro/Pontiac GTO will give a good fanbase in the UK and US. Considering it'll be going up against the BTCC and NASCAR, i think they would stand a good chance

A good chance if the Americans get over the USA is best, idea!

They will see the name "Australian V8 supercars" and then go the other way.

To a sport that involves more body armor than a Middleage's Knight or a race that goes around so much that TAZ would get dizzy.
