Toyota Slashes Aurion TRD Prices By $4,000!

Toyota Slashes TRD Pricing

Marton Pettendy
3 March 2008
www.goauto.com.au

Toyota has slashed $4000 from the retail price of its homegrown TRD Aurion, a day after it said it was satisfied with the number of supercharged sedans it has sold.

The March 1 announcement sees the entry-level TRD Aurion 3500S price reduce from $56,990 to $52,990 and the flagship 3500SL version’s sticker price drop from $61,500 to $56,990 – a reduction of $4510.

TRD Aurion options prices were also cut from this month, but there are no changes to either variant’s specifications.

At the opening of the Melbourne International Motor Show on Friday (February 29), Toyota Australia’s senior executive director of sales and marketing David Buttner said the company was “comfortable” with TRD Aurion sales.

TRD Aurion Returns, But Hot HiLux Delayed

James Stanford

The TRD Aurion is back on sale after production was halted following an engine failure, but the planned TRD HiLux has been delayed until mid next year.

Toyota Australia had stated the supercharged HiLux would be on sale late this year when it revealed a concept version at the Melbourne motor show in March.

Toyota Australia sales and marketing chief David Buttner said there had been no problems with the hot HiLux, but said development was simply taking longer than expected.

“We have never had definitive dates, but we were planning to go this year,” Mr Buttner said.

“There are no issues in relation to the Hilux. We are going forward positively.”

TRD Back On Track

Toyota's performance arm, TRD, has lifted its sales stop on the supercharged TRD Aurion.

According to Toyota's marketing chief, Dave Buttner, investigations carried out on the failed engine (more here) led the company to believe it was a one-off incident but they have now taken action by reducing the rev range of the supercharged 3.5-litre V6.

"We wouldn't normally stop ship for one engine failure but I am very keen to ensure that in launching the new brand, we did everything we could to protect our customers and to protect the brand," Buttner says.

However, after exhaustive testing, Toyota is still not saying exactly what caused the problem and when asked whether it was due to over revving the engine Buttner was quick to suggest "potential" over revving by the driver thereby avoiding any allocation of blame.

TRD Aurion Withdrawn From Sale

Toyota has suspended sales of its recently released high performance TRD Aurion, pending an investigation of an engine failure last week.

Toyota's high performance TRD Aurion
It is the crucial first release from the new Toyota Racing Developments workshop, which has bolted a supercharger on to the Aurion's V6 engine to lift power from 204 kW to 241 kW.

Toyota spokesman Mike Breen says one vehicle ''had an issue'' in the hands of a dealer salesperson. ''The issue appears unrelated to the supercharger or the engine power output,'' he says. ''At the moment, we believe this is a one-off issue.

Toyota has a commitment to the quality of our product and since this type of incident is unusual for a Toyota engine, we took the decision to stop selling the vehicle while we investigate.''

TRD Sales Still On Hold

Prodrive, Harrop in clear as Toyota seeks cause of TRD Aurion engine failure.

Toyota Australia has yet to reveal the exact cause of a mysterious and embarrassing engine failure that led the company to withdraw its high-performance Aurion TRD from sale just weeks after it was released.

However, suppliers Prodrive, which modifies the basic Aurion for Toyota, and Eaton supercharger agent Harrop Engineering have both been cleared of responsibility.

Toyota maintains that the failure of the 3.5-litre supercharged V6 is an isolated case and has resumed production of the car, but stocks are being held back from dealers.

Wow, that is a dangerously good looking car. Although it sucks to hear about any manufacturer withdrawing a high performance vehicle from the market...atleast it's a Toyota!

Toyota suspends sale of Aurion TRD dues to safety concerns

Quote:
The Toyota Aurion TRD went on sale just weeks ago in Australia, but Toyota has suspended sales due to safety concerns. Bases on the Toyota Camry, the Aurion TRD uses a supercharged 3.5 L V6 that is rated at 329 horsepower. Toyota says the sales hold is due to a potential engine failure issue that is not related to the supercharger or the engine's high output.

Re: Toyota suspends Aurion TRD sales due to safety concerns

So Toyota makes a "Toyota Racing Development" car whose engine fails right after it makes the FJ, whose body cracks if you take it off road.

Perhaps Toyota engineers should stick to making subcompacts for the streets of Tokyo.

#2 or #1? Recent articles have indicated over the last 6 years Toyota has had more recalls in volume than any other manufacturer.

Re: Toyota suspends Aurion TRD sales due to safety concerns

Stop selling the vehicle over a single engine failure? That seems a little extreme.

Unless Toyota knows more than they've lead us on to believe, it would seem the action to stop sell is a mass over reaction, bringing negative attention to the product and company for no real reason.

People can claim Toyota is doing to stop sell for whatever amount of reasons, but their track history and history of other manufacturers has it that recalls and stop sells don't initiate after a single failure.

It would however not be the first time Toyota could be accused of not disclosing the details and or attempting to avoid recalls or addressing vehicle issues in a correct timely manner.

It must be a critical and widespread engine problem to stop selling the vehicle totally. I think there is more to this story then we are allowed to know.

I only need to mention NASCAR. Ohhh yea it's real too!!! Toyota buys out Gibbs Racing. Foreign interests attempting to buy the rights to US ports. This morning on there's a deal on the table to sell 20% of NASDAQ to yet another foreign interest from Borse Dubai.

Pretty soon we'll own nothing and have control of nothing. Hope we're all polishing up on foreign languages.

Anything's for sale in this country. We'll start selling off our kids before long!
