Spied: Holden VE Wagon & HSV Maloo Ute Presentation Pictures (August 2007)
Quote:
Holden Reinvents The Aussie Wagon Jez Spinks 28 August 2007 www.drive.com.au A leaked image of Holden's radical new Commodore wagon reveals a dramatic departure from the fleet-based load carriers of the past. Holden's VE Commodore wagon doesn't launch until next year but a leaked photo has appeared on internet chat sites. The leaked picture of the VE wagon reveals a dramatic change of direction for Holden's traditional cargo-carrier. The sportiest-looking Holden wagon yet suggests the local car maker wants to target the more lucrative lifestyle market instead of the discounted world of business and fleets. In this Holden disagrees with local car-making rival Toyota, which has abandoned the conventional wagon for its Kluger 4WD-style soft-roader. Toyota Australia believes the traditional sedan-based wagon will only ever appeal to fleets. The image supports our speculation that the elongated Commodore will use the same platform as the VE sedan rather than the longer-wheelbase version as used for the company's Statesman/Caprice luxury models. Click here to continue article Leaked: HSV's All-New Maloo Jez Spinks 28 August 2007 www.drive.com.au An image of the next-generation of Australia's most powerful and fastest Ute has hit the internet weeks ahead of it's official reveal. An image of HSV's most powerful ute has been leaked on internet chat sites weeks ahead of its official debut at the Sydney motor show on October 11. Like the Holden Ute on which it is based, the HSV Maloo looks to be straying further from its traditional appeal as a workhorse, and appealing more as a sports coupe or a lifestyle vehicle. The all-new E-Series Maloo will draw its power from the same 307kW/550Nm 6.0-litre V8 as HSV's E-Series sedan range, giving it more power and torque (up 10kW and 20Nm) than the last-generation (VZ) model that last year entered the Guinness Book of Records as the world's fastest ute (271.44km/h). In fact, the Maloo could be Australia's first sub-5sec Ute – the model it replaces was capable of 0-100km/h in 5.1sec – though to do this it would need to overcome a weight increase, potentially of up to 150kg heavier if Commodore Ute figures are any indication. The Maloo – expected to be priced from just below $60K - customarily adopts a more aggressive styling approach to the Holden VE Ute that launched only last week. Re: Spied: Holden VE Wagon/HSV Ute Maloo caught in presentation
Thats got a really nice line to it. I like it. Magnum eater anyone?
Could be Pontiac's family mover since they are cutting all the SUV/Crossover from them (which is a good thing).

Perfect roofline.
The d-pillar is bit chunky. I have mixed feelings about the massive tail-lights. Very nice looking wagon, regardless.

I love that wagon. It needs to come to America as a Pontiac to replace the Trickle...I mean Torrent.
Pontiac needs this wagon because it needs a "practical" family-hauling machine to appeal to young families, but keeps the sporty nature intact. This wagon will do that and complete directly with the Magnum. If Pontiac offers a GPX version of the wagon, that could compete directly with the BMW 3/5 M wagons, and the Mercedes C/E AMG wagons. BRING IT!!!!!!

Re: Spied: Holden VE Wagon/HSV Ute Maloo caught in presentation
This thing is going to be much more expensive than the Torrent... probably even more expensive than the comparable G8 counterpart (since wagons traditionally cost more than sedans).
I don't think it's coming to the U.S. No one would pay $30k-$40k for a Pontiac wagon. Americans could barely swallow the BMW and Mercedes wagons.

Wagons just don't sell very well in the US. Magnum sales have dropped greatly since its introduction. Leave the wagon in Australia.
That Ute looks incredible! I'd like to see it in black. But again, that would not sell here.

I'd much rather have the wagon than the Ute. The ute looks a little akward.
Like genjy said, the roofline on the wagon is spot on.

I wish Pontiac could bring this over, and not 'Pontiac-ize' it too much.

The Magnum has such a low roof line in the cargo area and such goofy looks that I could never really be interested in one.
