The One Million Dollar Monaro: Rare HRT 427 Concept Up For Grabs! Sold For $920,000!
Australia’s Most Expensive Car, The HRT 427
Australian Car Advice 4 April 2008 www.caradvice.com.au A Holden HRT 427 has just become the most expensive Australian car ever sold, fetching a price tag of $920,000 - well beyond the previous $750,000 price payed for a Ford Falcon 1971 GTHO Phase III. One of only two ever made by Holden for testing and touring motor shows, the near half-million dollar bid was placed by a bloke in shorts and thongs known only as ‘Chooka’. Based on a Corvette C5R race engine, the HRT 427 is powered by a 417kW 7.0-litre V8 engine - hence the namesake. No expense was spared for the HRT 427, combining a heavy-duty 900Nm clutch mated to a custom T56 six-speed manual gearbox handbuilt by Tremec for HSV, AP Racing six-piston brake package, half rollcage and Sparco Pro 2000 driving seats as used in the British Touring Car Championship. Joshua Dowling 23 February 2008 www.smh.com.au The rarest Holden Monaro never built is up for sale and it's expected to fetch $1million even though it can't be registered. It's the car Holden Special Vehicles hand-crafted when it was planning a limited edition, super high-performance version of the Monaro coupe, the HRT 427. The star of the 2002 Sydney Motor Show (it was named after the Holden Racing Team and the cubic-inch capacity of the 7.0-litre V8) was axed after HSV discovered it would have been too expensive to go into production. The HRT 427 show car is still on display at Holden's headquarters in Melbourne but a top-secret second car was built by HSV engineers who had begun testing components. HSV dealers were obliged to refund deposits for the vehicle, which was expected to cost about $150,000. A lot of loyal customers were left unhappy. One prospective buyer, however, didn't give up and pestered his local dealer for three years. Eventually, HSV agreed to sell the prototype test car about two years ago. The car is for sale on consignment at Sydney's Classic Throttle Shop. Awe man this was the car of my high school dreams. If I had a GTO I'd work hard to make it something like this car. Who knows maybe there's a LS3 G8 in my future.

Kids take note, that's what a million dollar Cavalier would look like.

Re: The One Million Dollar Monaro: Rare HRT 427 Concept Up For Grabs!
So when the whole Commodore vs Cadillac thread was on you were telling everyone to just accept that we like our cars diff to what u like and now you come up with that crap line, are you just trying to start it up again?? Why dont you just STFU with the stupid comments, or maybe your just jealous cause GM forgot how to build a decent performance car based of a sedan and little old Holden had to show them how to do it again

And you're doing the opposite here. So maybe you should silence yourself, and not get so worked up over a tongue-in-cheek reference to a years-old criticism of the Monaro.

Also nice to see a car prior to the platform being screwed with to get it state side. No high on the side fuel cap, no boot (trunk) full of a gas tank etc etc. A 2 dr coupe that could carry 4 people and their luggage.

A million? Why is that car worth a million? It would be lucky to get $200,000 at the last Barret-Jackson auction.
