Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?

For mercy's sake avoid those ancient baggage-laden US names like Pontiac Grand or Trans(vestite) Umm to spare us all from the inevitable infantile moanings of the 'heritage' has-been set

It'd be great to see this coupe realised in pillarless form

Cool Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?

The G60 Coupe will never be built.
Whilst it created quite a stir at the Melbourne Motor Show, it was nothing like the furore created by the prototype of the CV8 Monaro several years prior.
There's no market for this car in Aus, & with Camaro shortly to go into production, I just can't see another Coupe on the horizon.
And, GM are certainly not in the position to to take any "chances" at the moment are they?---So no, I can't see it being built, at all.
Cheers, Pickles.

The prospects of a Holden Monaro entering a new generation via the awesome Coupe 60 concept now rests on the Australian manufacturer securing an export deal.

GM Holden’s new managing director Mark Reuss told GoAuto at the Melbourne International Motor Show last week that if the Coupe 60 was to be put into production, a substantial amount of its projected sales volumes would have to come from overseas.

“It would need to have a healthy export volume somewhere; I mean, 50 per cent of our volume right now is export,” Mr Reuss said.

“To keep the business viable and to keep Holden sustained with manufacturing, we want to export, that is part of it.”

Holden will have its first chance to gather support for a Coupe 60 project at a General Motors internal conference in Orlando, US, next month, where the vehicle’s future as a new member of the Pontiac stable will be high on the agenda.

Fix the nose, dump the skirting, rework the exhaust, and fix the side mirrors. Otherwise, 5 gold stars. I couldn't care less if they called it GTO, Firebird, or G8 Coupe. It is beautiful and modern. I'd seriously consider it as my next car.

Nick

Make mine Pacific Slate Metallic/Light Taupe interior or offer blue leater like in the last GTO.

Cheers, Pickles.
Between the Camaro and the CTS Coupe, GM has absolutely no need for this car.

The only possible purpose would be another Pontiac halo car, or as a sop for the small number of hardcore Pontiac fans. (Only ~20K GTOs/Trans Ams sold per year in the 21st century. Far less than the more expensive Corvette.)

Its an extremely attractive car, but there's nothing unique about how it would be positioned in the market, and the weak Pontiac brand would limit US sales.
