Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
The 04-06 GTO's were great cars also, but they flopped!

Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
Not sure it will be sold in th US due to the US Dollar, but I agree, with the way fuel is going, perhaps they should bring it over as a 6 cylinder, with perhaps a turbo option, and a small v8 run. Call it a g8 coupe. Don't think it will happen though.

Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
I agree with some of the posts earlier about the naming of this model should it come to Pontiac. I think it could work as a Grand Prix as well. Not only was the 60s & 70s G/P rwd, but they were also 2 doors. The 4 door Grand Prix did not first appear until the early 90s. I really don't care less what they end up calling the car just as long as it makes its appearance in the Pontiac family. The platform could be shared with Buick if so fit to help with production case. However, I hope they can design it different enough to put some distance between that model and the Pontiac. However, with that said, I'm sure Chevrolet will go screaming their whining arses that they need to have a version of it as well.

How is the sound of a V8 childish?? I think you are confusing that with those fart cans on ricers. I really appreciate the rubble of a nice V8 and that's what I'm going for in my next car. If that makes me childish, so be it; I'm in my late 20s or early 30s. However, I will say, I'm in my early 40s now. |

Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
I will be 28 in July, hope to make $60-70k next year, my Cobalt lease will be expiring and hope to have my first child on the way. What of those qualifications above means that I should be attracted to a Buick coupe?
![]() If GM wants a trendy car that can compete in a young market, they need to build this car with a peppy V6, 6-speed that can get 28+mpg based on the Monaro. I do not think Buick has ever reached out to me and my peers before and this is the hottest concept of the year so far, to me. I will be happy to go to Orlando and vote for this one 35 times. |

Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
I really don't understand how everyone keeps saying the GTO was a flop. They were originally to be sale 18,000 and year. The 04 didn't sell in that number and the total yearly figure was dropped to 15,000 a year. The 05 and 06s, I believe sold a lot closer to that figure. I consider a flop the Lincoln trucks. It was projected to sale like 30,000 and it only sold like 7 or 8 thousand. The first GTO missed it's mark by roughly 6,000 units, maybe more, but that truck missed by 20,000 units. That is a flop. |

No, I haven't heard them all together like that, but I'm sure I can listen to sound clips of them all in a comparison from youtube. I have heard them all separately and personally, I know the MB is extremely powerful, I think sounds weak. That is just me though. I actually think the Northstar have a better sound to it than MB's V8. |

Drive that Cobalt until its 11 years old or more. Then you will be making well over 100K and you can buy a $30K car

The GTO is sweet, but it does not appeal to those that do not want to be abnoxious and silly

Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
If GM learned from that hard lesson, this vehicle, if brought over as a new GTO could work if done correctly.
The '04 GTO was a hack rush job (just look at the trunk/gas tank issue) at best.

Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
Your ears must be alot more sensitive than mine, unless under harder than normal driving a GTO isn't obnoxious at all. Seems more subdued than a mustang. Is it MB quiet, no not at all, also not the same class of car, but certainly isn't obnoxious unless you want it to be. I haven't heard a GTO and Vette side by side but hearing them seperate I wouldn't make them out to be to different sounding, unless every vette I've heard has an aftermarket exhaust.

Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
There is export potential for this car, I am sure that Chevrolet dealers in the Middle East would love a new Lumina coupe, as I am sure that both Vauxhall and Opel would like a new Monaro VXR, Pontiac, well duh, that one we know, and possibly even Buick. I am sure that it would even work as a Daewoo coupe.
