Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
While I am in the GTO camp for this vehicle, I would love for Camaro_Freak or ManaroSS to do a Chevelle version.

I think Pontiac should have the whole line up from the platform. A coupe, sedan and wagon. There is alot of possibilities here for Pontiac.

Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
Would they plan on making lower HP versions or would it be a GTO type only car? I see no reason why they couldn't have coupe versions of the G8 , G8GT , G8 GXP or if they really want to do it again GTO. Or maybe they could give it to Saab? j/k

Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
If they build a Pontiac version of this you can bet the farm they won't call it GTO. Its not retro. Why in the world would you open this car up to all the abuse and ill will the GTO crowd heaped on the 04-06 model?

What ever they do they need it over here, because I need one. I like the CTS coupe, but it looks like a hatchback, this looks like a proper coupe. I almost wish they'd leave the "twin kidney" grill and just put a Pontiac arrow in place of the Holden badge.

Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
This vehicle should not come as a GTO. It should come here as a G8 coupe. Most of all, it should have a V8, but, the sound should be muffled, to sound like a Benz S500 V8. As only lound when you gun it, but even then, not Z06 lound..
That is class.. then, even girls will buy it.

If it is styled right, it would be great no matter what Pontiac calls it. i just hope it sells. How about an adjustable exhaust note like the GTO Humbler option in '70. ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3GLNYzoZEM

Don't expect that to stay if it makes production!

Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
If they don't build this as a Pontiac then I'll take it as a sign that Pontiac is going to fold. If they can't make a business case for a car that will be shared with another brand... a car on an exisitng platform with exisiting engines and transmissions and interior bits (for the most part)... a car that is 100% in the spirit of Pontiac (sporty, RWD)... well then there's no hope for Pontiac. There clearly isn't enough money in the GM coffers to fund Pontiac-specific vehicles... so piggybacking off of Holden is the only chance Pontiac has.
I still can't gather how it's econimically viable to build a large V6 and V8 RWD platform... why isn't it, in these ever-increasing fuel-price times, viable to build a smaller (aka Alpha or Torana) platform? Heck, they made a business case for 20,000 Kappa's a year... an Alpha platform capable of spawning coupes and sedans and even wagons could easily sell up towards 100,000 spilt across Holden and Pontiac alone, if not more. I find it kinda fishy that this hasn't been greenlighted yet. Seems like such a no-brainer. Also, before anyone reminds me that Kappa is hydroformed and can't be done in high volumes, I know... don't make Alpha hydroformed, but instead do something more conventional so that high volumes are possible at multiple plants.

My Boss who drives an Audi and is pretty much an import lover saw the C60 concept and was really impressed! With designs like that GM can lure customers who currently only look at imports.

Re: New Holden Monaro Program Depends On Exports - New Pontiac GTO?
That is exactly what I thought when I saw the concept. It's a pity because it makes the car look so much better.

I just dont see it comming here unfortunatly. I think it could have a small following, like the G8 probably will. But I just dont see it comming here.

I think G8 will have a large following. Hell look at all the people in the Grand Prix camp, and that car was average for its day. G8 is better then its competition. |
