Re: New Ford Performance Vehicles Falcon Range Released - Ford Considers Axing V8 Fal
If you watch the vid
one of the drives (Carey maybe?) is saying he can't see why anyone would get the V8 since it is almost a second slower to 100km/h. The G6E Turbo posted a 5.1 ![]() ![]()

Even in the VL series when the 4.9 was re-introduced for unleaded it was well and truly shaded by the turbo 3.0 and probably the 3.0 ntaurally aspirated as well. People still bought the V8 though, you could only get it with a trimatic as well if memory serves. Even today the turbo might have bigger torque numbers but many out there will still want the 8. They still sound pretty good. Even in today's age I still wouldn't fancy switching a turbo engine off straight away. Do ford have cool down instructions for the turbo? |

Re: New Ford Performance Vehicles Falcon Range Released - Ford Considers Axing V8 Fal
Sounds a bit like History repeating itself. Ford killed off the V8 in the XF series around 1984 and pulled out of racing. I think they still regret that because they lost a lot of loyal fans (and buyers). Holden would have done the same except for the 'V8 till 98' campaign.
Also the 4.0Lt I6 was always looking more and more doomed in recent years. Ford Aust has to export to substantiate the numbers and there was no way they were going to export the Falcon if they had to also supply unique parts to go with it. Now with the V6 they will be able to tap into a global engine part distribution network. On the V6 vs I6 issue, remember most V6's need a balance shaft to keep the vibes down. Not needed in a I6 |
