New 7-Speed Auto For Holden & Ford?
New 7-Speed Auto For Holden & Ford?
Joe Kenwright 20 April 2007 www.carpoint.com.au Local auto outfit helps generate opportunity for Holden and Ford to fit state-of-the-art automatic transmissions. Following the restructure of the old Borg Warner transmission plant in Albury, on the Victorian-NSW border, into Drivetrain Systems International, Australia will soon be manufacturing and exporting automatic transmissions in four, five, six and seven-speed variations. This generates an opportunity for Holden and Ford to fit state-of-the-art automatic transmissions at local prices. Currently, Ford is the only local company to fit a DSI automatic transmission: the four-speed that is fitted to entry Falcon and Territory models. By late 2005, this transmission had been refined to benchmark levels for a four-speed automatic, generating better fuel economy, more intuitive shifting and smoother operation. Late in 2006, it was further tweaked for extra efficiency. In the Australian context, its overhaul costs are a fraction of imported transmissions. Click here to continue article ![]() |

Pointless, I can't count that far. Oh, it's an automatic. Cool!

Granted, the current ZF 6 Speed is a sweet shifter, but the seven speed would hardly make any greater ground than marketing capability. Its the quality of the gearbox that counts. Not the number of ratios. There are plenty of crap 6 speed shifters that don't match up to the ZF (Holdens V8 fore example). Its hardly a nightmare though. Your willingness to jump on any percieved weakness as the impending downfall of a marque is hillarious. Keep it up. I need the laugh.![]()

Re: New 7-Speed Auto For Holden & Ford?
Mercedes was the first with the seven speed and they incororated it into virtually their entire line, including the c-class, last year. When Lexus introduced the new LS it included the world's first 8 speed. Don't get overly excited about being trendsetters or inovators here.
