Meet Rodeo's Sister: New Holden Colorado Range & Prices Announced

Colorado - A New Name For Tough

GM Holden
1 July 2008
www.holden.com.au

GM Holden is taking the covers off its soon to be released, new light commercial vehicle, the Holden Colorado.

This new powerful light truck promises to deliver high levels of performance and load carrying capability, all with the car-like interior comfort and value for money that Holden is renowned for.

A three tonne braked towing capability** on Turbo Diesel 4x4 variants adds to the Colorado’s rugged appeal.

The Holden Colorado will bring an extensive LCV range to the market, offering consumers a wide choice of body styles, powertrains and specifications to suit all work and recreational applications, catering for both fleet and private customers.

With muscular wheel arches, powerful front end and aggressive side profile, the Colorado’s exterior styling reflects its hardworking credentials.

A new sports variant, the LT-R, will combine a number of sports features to create the toughest Colorado yet. Available in 4x2 or 4x4 variants, featuring sports bars, soft tonneau cover, side steps, front fog lamps, 16 inch alloy wheels and sports interior trim. The LT-R 4x4 also adds Bluetooth® capability for compatible phones and Rear Park Assist.

With a high level of specification, including driver and passenger airbags on the entire range and ABS with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) standard on LT-R and all LX 4x4 variants, the Holden Colorado line-up offers an impressive array of features.

Three engines are available, including a 3.0 litre four-cylinder common rail turbo diesel, which delivers peak torque of 360Nm at 1800rpm and peak power of 120kW at 3600rpm^ (manual transmission). Also available is a 3.6 litre Alloytec V6 petrol engine and a spirited 2.4 litre four-cylinder petrol engine.

GM Holden Marketing Manager, Teresa Basile, said the Holden Colorado is a tough new entry into the LCV market, with the durability, power and features to cover dual purposes of work and recreation.

“The Colorado is built tough with up to three tonnes of towing capability. With over 30 combinations of model, powertrain, cabin, ride height and body style, there’s a Colorado to tackle any job,” Ms Basile said.

“Colorado is also well equipped, with driver and passenger airbags standard across the range, and ABS with EBD fitted to LT-R and all LX 4x4 variants.

“The Colorado LT-R is the hero of the new range with a long list of features, including sports bars, soft tonneau, side steps and sports interior trim, to appeal to customers looking for the best truck for work and recreation.”

Hmm, needs some getting used to I think; particularly the black headlight back ground.

I think it looks pretty good, better than Ranger, Hilux and BT-50 at least.

Though I am watching with interest to see how smoothly the name transition to a state that means nothing much more than Skiing to most Australians/NZers will go.

The front clip is miles better than the one on the Chevy Colorado. I wonder what the fuel economy is like with the 3.6L and the diesel compared the US version's I5 and V8? Any pictures of the interior yet?

I like it. The grille and headlights work for me. However, being a bit old school, I would prefer a chrome front bumper to go along with it.

This is what the Colorado needs here in the States. I nice styling refresh, with the 3.6 V6 offered up. Throw in a modern 6 speed auto or manual transmission, and Chevy might start winning some sales back from Toyota Tacoma.

That should be the Chevy Colorado here. What the hell is GM waiting for!? Smaller trucks are needed right now-the current Chevy is a dog.

I like the headlights, but the curves in the front clip dont really go tegether woth the sharp lines and straight angles of the rest of the car and the headlights.

It might work for all the wankers who think a 'scoop' on a 'tough light commercial' (which is an oxymoron) equals rugged. Like having pretend 4WD accessories on your 2WD Terri makes it a real offroader......

I may be in the minority, but this Colorado is MUCH more attractive than the ugly Holden one. That new front on the Holden is hideous. I have to say I'd buy a Tacoma or Frontier over that new Colorado any day if it looked like that here in the US. I can't say the same of the current US Colorado, I like it more than the others.

Especially in the former Xtreme trim level.

Re: Meet Rodeo's Sister: New Holden Colorado Range & Prices Announced

I'm still at a loss as to why they'd use the Colorado name. Things aren't so tight that they couldn't stamp out some different emblems. Great looking truck though, except for those tail lights. It's also available in a heck of a lot more configurations than our Colorado.
