The Last Of Their Generation - Special Edition Holden Commodore SVZ Ute & Wagon

SVZ Treatment For VZ Commodore Wagon & Ute

Terry Martin
14 May 2007
www.goauto.com.au

Holden rolls out a special-edition VZ Commodore wagon and ute before the VEs arrive.

In a predictable move, Holden this week rolled out SVZ versions of its VZ Commodore-based station wagon and utility, both of which are in their last throes before new-generation VE series models arrive.

As was the case with last year’s SVZ sedan and wagon, the limited-editions are aimed at maintaining the sales momentum of vehicles that date back to the 1997 VT Commodore.

The all-new VE utility is due on sale by October, while the wagon is not scheduled for release until early next year.

There is no drive-away pricing for the SVZs this time around, although the wagon’s $32,490 starting price is $2000 lower than the 2006 edition. The SVZ ute, which was not part of last year’s offer, is priced from $29,990 for the six-speed manual. (A five-speed auto on the ute adds $1000).

As before, additional equipment on the "Executive"-spec wagon includes popular options such as 17-inch alloy wheels (the spare wheel remains steel), air-conditioning, an in-dash six-CD player, front foglights, a roof rack and rear wind deflector.

Re: I'm hoping this is hinting at something good!

SVZ Wagon

^^^Not a promo shot obviously

Same again for Ute

Here they come! (if the wagon doesn't arrive, my shriek of dissapointment will transcend the normal audible limits of hemispherical separation. Believe that!)

If you didn't get my assumptions; they are making room for something.

Not much longer to go now. It's too bloody long to wait for the Sydney Motor Show. I reckon we may see the new Ute earlier.

I can't think of any landmark events though. Actually when is the big Ute Muster on? That would be a nice surprise for the country boys!

.

They'll wait 'till Sydney. What would they have special for the biggest car show date if not a new Ute?

They have been too busy with G8 and Camaro and maybe even the Alpha platform to have done some one-off like Efijy or Torana Concept.

Are there any whispers of a VZ SS S/W?

Re: The Last Of Their Generation - Special Edition Holden Commodore SVZ Ute & Wagon

Just a question - why do they badge it SVZ? Really it is a VZ S in S/W form (why use the Berlina nosecone - should have been the SS), and the ute is an S with a few extra bits as well like the Storm model.

So when we refer to it the vehicle becomes an 07 Holden Commodore VZ SVZ. Just doesn't make much sense from a marketing angle. They must really be struggling to come up with names for all these limited edition models they release now.

The Lumina was a classic example. Never sure where it sat in the line up. As it got a 6 disc CD but no TC, yet the Acclaim only had a single CD but got TC & 4 airbags as standard.

Re: The Last Of Their Generation - Special Edition Holden Commodore SVZ Ute & Wagon

I think they thought they couls pass the SVZ series off as a sports derivative aligned with the sv6 an sv8. The addition of leather trimed seats and FE1.5 (from VZ Calais) have added some value whilst use of the berlina nose has limited exclusion of people not looking for something aggressive. Had they ctually used the SV6 version, I would have been bitching about the lack of 190 KW HFV6 and 5 speed auto.

It's the last of the line, like the Monaro CV-8Z... but using the SV moniker is confusing.

It looks like they are going the lux route rather than sports, hence Belina front...still VZ Calais would have looked better again and more 'special'.

The Luminas were limited-time specials usually released just prior to xmas (similar to the old Vacationer)... normally the Exec with a bunch of free stuff added, approaching Acclaim level.
