Seriously, how many will they sell, a few thousand a year?

160,000 Aussie dollars is 150,004 US dollars.
The 2 currencies arent all that different.

An STS-V is almost HALF the price at US$80,000.

And normal HSVs only sell a few thousand a year. This will probably sell under 100 a year.

Re: HSV W427: The Inside Story - $168,000 Price Tag?

Lets not forget that the W427 is more that likely to be exported to the UK and M.E, so with only a build rate of 200 a year, would it be safe to say that half of those will be exported overseas and the other half allocated to the AU/NZ. Im sure that it wont be that hard to find 100 buyers locally or else im sure that many of the cashed up M.E will snap them up.

Re: HSV W427: The Inside Story - $168,000 Price Tag?

It's a bit high priced but it will sell, And I'm sure people that have the money to buy one won't give to ****s on price.

The old GTS-R i seen one the other say in an HSV show room, 22.000km on the dash not for sale, If it were to be sold they would need $110,000 easy.
Collectors items are always going to hold there money.

For these people a GTR =

you do realise that the GTR is actually pretty big and has 4 seats right?
I doubt anyone with a W427 will be using it to tow anything. I doubt a tow bar would even be an option.
backs, fair enough, GTR is pretty low
and last 2 are silly.

I dont get how anyone could think the W427 looks good
ah well.

It is sold in Australia where if it can tow it will most likely be used as a tow car. Afterall why not have a fun practical car? It's probably easier to get it past the wife.............."honey we need a more powerful car so I can tow our boat"

Gen-TT Intercooled Twin Turbo Holden Cross8

Comparing back seats of both cars

Nissan GTR (look at the right side for leg room - its pathetic)

The W427 would have a similar sized interior room to this Holden VE SS

As for looks I would go with the HSV in an instant. The GTR has one of the worst mis matched styling ive ever seen in a modern car. Most angles the GTR looks bad, however I do admitt that front on the W427 isnt a looker.

Re: HSV W427: The Inside Story - $168,000 Price Tag?

Orders Race In For HSV’s Hot W427

Neil Dowling
3 June 2008
www.carsguide.com.au

HSV's 370kW of thunder, the W427, starts production in July with a potential order book far outstripping its limited production run.

There is much interest about the car dubbed Australia's fastest production vehicle.

HSV managing director Scott Grant has 1500 expressions of interest and yet has production plans of only 200 of the hand-built special sedans.

Prices are now being crunched but Grant sees it falling in the $150,000 to $170,000 slot, a bit higher than the $125,000-plus hint dropped by HSV at the model's Melbourne Motor Show debut.

But the price could be even higher. What won't change is the 200 production run though Grant won't rule out a second-tier model line using the same drivetrain.

Only six W427 — for Walkinshaw and the imperial-measure cubic-inch capacity of the engine — cars will be made each week.

“We can only manage six a week,” Grant said. “We're saying 200 today. But when we fix the price, we'll also confirm production numbers.

“We'll stick at 200. But we could produce variations on that theme.”

Re: HSV W427: The Inside Story - Orders Rushing In For LS7 Hottie!

Styling-wise, I reckon HSV should've made a lot more changes. The rear is devastatingly similar to a Clubsport, the sides are nothing special (where's the big, obvious side vents and side-exit exhausts?). Unique tailights? Unique headlights? Unique bonnet? (where's the hungry openings, even the Coupe 60 vents at the back of the bonnet would've been nice), how bout a slightly different interior from the rest of the range? Colour is one thing, but design is no excuse.

Granted HSV had a small budget for its design, but for a car of this stature and potential, they should've gone all out or left it.

I saw the pictures and was completely grossed out by the pidgeon face appearance of its front. But after seeing it in person, it looks brilliant for subtle changes. I love its looks. And trust me, pictures do it no justice, it looks extremely muscular and imposing in person. Definitely an air of arrogance when you walk past. Blows the M5 and M6 away easily for subtle looks and almost demon-inspired aggression. Love it. MOTOR mag have got it in their next issue. the first drive. Im looking forward to seeing what it can do.

Re: HSV W427: The Inside Story - Orders Rushing In For LS7 Hottie!

I think the current Muscle Car Collectors market (one of many bubbles potentially about to burst), it has little to do with what it can do or what you can do aftermarket to its cousin, and more to do with how many laser engraved badges and signatures you can get on it.

I may have the power to go much faster in the top end, but all of that means nothing when it's electronically speed limited to 255km/h anyway. Maybe it has a better power curve though, who know's about that all I know is that this car isn't as differentiated as it's price tag calls for.
Exactly. For example if it had AWD, it could be faster where it counts and it would further differentiate it. An extra 100 grand for 0.2 seconds is stupid. This is just a cool collectors car.
