There is much interest about the car dubbed Australia's fastest production vehicle. HSV managing director Scott Grant has 1500 expressions of interest and yet has production plans of only 200 of the hand-built special sedans. Prices are now being crunched but Grant sees it falling in the $150,000 to $170,000 slot, a bit higher than the $125,000-plus hint dropped by HSV at the model's Melbourne Motor Show debut. But the price could be even higher. What won't change is the 200 production run though Grant won't rule out a second-tier model line using the same drivetrain. Only six W427 — for Walkinshaw and the imperial-measure cubic-inch capacity of the engine — cars will be made each week. “We can only manage six a week,” Grant said. “We're saying 200 today. With a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.7-seconds it’ll have no problems running with the best European four-door super sedans. “Since the original HRT 427 model, the core of the company has wanted to do a supercar program,” explained HSV managing director Scott Grant. “There’s been that simmering of interest. Seriously, if they want to charge that much they'd want to at least make it radically different from a Commodore in appearance - plus it's no faster than the Clubsport R8 anyway!
I may have the power to go much faster in the top end, but all of that means nothing when it's electronically speed limited to 255km/h anyway. Maybe it has a better power curve though, who know's about that all I know is that this car isn't as differentiated as it's price tag calls for. |

Let me check the date to make sure it's not the 1st April.
That is just way too expensive for a Holden/HSV. I'm a big fan of what they do but that engine and tarted up appearance still doesn't justify the expence. We love the Brand because it does 80% of the job of a BMW at half the cost. This is insanity.

Instant collectables aren't necessarily that much better than their ilk. Take the latest 40th ann. FPV GT for example. They all sold out instantly and 1 went to auction 4ish months later making 40K over its original purchase price, even though:
A) All remaining BF FPVs got the same engine, B) It's instantly outclassed by the next generation (due this month?)

no amount of money is 'too much for a Holden' if the car is worth it. Holden has a lot of major fanboy-ism on its cards.
Will people pay almost $170,000 for this? obviously a few .... but sh1t, 500hp? make is 600hp at least for that much....... and someone please tell me it will have a different kit. I just find it so damn ugly.... ![]()

I'd spend that extra $10,000 and get a Nissan R35 GTR, which is a better car by miles, all around. 20hp less, but performance still kills it.

ok, how much is 160 Aussie in US Dollars?
How much does it cost next to a CTS-V, STS-V? How about next to a Z06 or ZR1? I don't know why you all think it cost too much? Seriously, how many will they sell, a few thousand a year? Do you honestly think a Maybach or RR or Bentley is worth 200-500,000 USD? Not a chance...but that handsome profit provides the company the means to innovate and only the true Upper Class/Rich people will be able to and can afford. You then become 'part of the club' and in that Elite group. Exclusivity! ever heard of it? CobaltSS

For all of you that say it is not "worth" it, you need to realize that if all you see in a car is transportation, then no car is "worth" more than the price of a Yaris. Even if you look just at the 0-60 time, or the horsepower rating, no car is "worth" more than a WRX or the like.
Any car (or any thing for that matter) is "worth" what someone is willing to pay for it. Look at fine art and antiques. Look at $600 shoes and $2,000 suits. People are willing to pay because they desire more than the function of the good. They desire the name, the exclusivity, the heritage. Their may not be a lot of people what are both willing and able to pay $160,000 for this car, but there will be some. And to them, it is "worth" it. |
