HSV W427 Heading To The UK

HSV W427 Heading To The UK

Australian Car Advice
10 April 2008
www.caradvice.com.au

For those of you disappointed with the Vauxhall VXR8’s performance against the Euro super-saloons in the video posted yesterday, AutoExpress reports that the 7.0-litre W427 which made its debut at the Melbourne Motor Show is heading over to the UK to settle the score.

Reports suggest it will be based on the W427, which means it is very possible it could sport an all-new look when it arrives in the UK in September.

Engineered by Tom Walkinshaw Racing, it is expected to retain the W427 namesake and will carry a price tag of around AUD$117,000 or £55,000 in the local money.

A bespoke suspension setup is also anticipated to suit UK roads, which may include the Magnetic Ride Control system featured on the HSV Clubsport GTS which is currently unavailable in the UK with the VXR8.

But it's ugly and it's power doesn't get to the road! On the other hand it was worked on by TWR, so it's only natural they import it.

I'm not so confident about this, it's occams razor.

Its looks are a major downfall imo.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that its so ugly, that people will decide not to buy it based soleyl on it being ugly.

uglier than the original Walkinshaw.

Give me a Senator body on it thanks.

It's much better looking in the flesh. It's just one of those cars that doesn't photograph well.

Ockham was referring to selecting the explaination that has the least assumptions for the same effect as more complex theories. Considering that the W427 is a not overly complicated plug in, and considering that Wortec in the UK already has a supercharged Clubsport, I think the Walky is a far simpler choice. As Einstein said: "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler."

I look forward to CAR magazines review of the W427.

Did anyone watch the video that was linked to the original story? The R8 gets eliminated because a junior whinging pom muffed the launch (too much wheelspin) and the gear shifts. It was embarassing, but essentially the entire video was a sham anyway.

I agree, such a subjective test.... so if they had started by testing the size of the boot (trunk) the beemer would have been dropped and not been included in further testing?

Proved nothing except that Autocar employs tools.

It sure does. I really did not like it when i saw the photos but after seeing it at the motor show i'd have to say it looks better than the R8 and GTS.

I'm Glad it looks different, what would be the point of giving it the same gene's as any of the other hsv car. I could have been better but what the hell it will evolve naturally

Re: HSV W427 Heading To The UK

It does look brilliant in the metal. Good design work considering they were on a tight budget. For those that dont know, its got a much angrier nose and the twin-nostril vents are much larger if you look closely in the photos because it has an over-the-radiator style cold air induction system to keep the beast cool.

I reckon it looks fantastic. And if its heading to the UK, I'd love to hear Jeremy Clarksons opinion if it appeared on Top Gear, which it most certainly would. He loved the Clubsport R8 so he should love this even more. And im inclined to say that I think he'll prefer the looks to the W427 to the VXR8 because its more restrained and silently aggressive which is kind of his thing. Looking forward to that
