Citroen C4 Picasso

Fiat Grande Punto
Jaguar XK
Lexus LS 460
Mercedes CL
MINI
Suzuki SX4 / Fiat Sedici

Looks like "European car of the year", with the token Japanese car for the sake of appearances.

This award has lost my respect after reading the list of finalists.

Did any of the judges even drive these cars, or was the short list judged by the level of kickbacks each company provided?????

What a croc...........

It can't be based on kickbacks, the RAV4 isn't there.

I can't beleive the SX4 is there. I saw one the other day and laughed (out loud) at the price. Mind you I did the same when I saw my first Holden Cruze.

Read post above yours....

Same can be applied to you....have you driven one?

So far the SX4 is getting rave revues for its driving dynamics regardless of size or small engine...infact the say the car feels faster then it is which thats what the average consumer cares more about

They even compared the driving dynamic to that of the WRX but in a subcompact package you honestly can't beat it for the price and its the only subcompact to offer AWD

It was even noted that if the tuner crowd got their hands onto this car they could make a WRX killer

Here in the states it starts out a a little more then 15k as ming stated its package and price destroys the competition like the the Vibe or Fit

This is from their website:

Quote:
WORLD CAR OF THE YEAR AWARDS: Mission Statement

World Car of the Year (WCOTY) is a program initiated by, organized by, and conducted by automotive journalists from all over the world. From the outset, those of us involved in making it a reality have done so in the context of one over-riding priority. We are dedicated to ensuring that it is carried out with the utmost objectivity, credibility, and integrity.

WCOTY has no affiliation with, nor is it is any way influenced by any publication, auto show, automaker, or other commercial enterprise. It is administered by a non-profit corporation, under the guidance of a Steering Committee of distinguished automotive journalists from Asia, Europe, and North America. In that way, it draws on the experience and expertise already developed by various other award programs throughout the world.

It is intended to complement, not compete with those existing national and regional COTY awards, which are inherently different in scope. By its nature, WCOTY includes some vehicles that may be unavailable in individual regions, and excludes others whose availability may be limited to those regions.
Now the SX4 probably won't win, but atleast it got into the top 10 as the Swift did last year...

I really like how everyone was like "Rock on!" "Yeah! The got a Holden and Caddillac in there" "Sweet! They know what cars are good out there"

Then as soon as they are droped when the Top 10 is rolled out - everyone gets bitter

"They're so Bias!" "Have they Driven it?" "This is a European Joke"

Get over it! Seems like the biased ones are you guys

But when you look at the list of finalists it is very Eurocentric.

you obviously haven't had a close look at the SX4.

It's a much much bigger car than the Cruze (4WD Ignis) was. It's a competitor for the Subaru Imprezza hatch.

That should be a given....

When GMIers want what GM sells under its global product or ford fans wanting vehicles here like the Mondeo, while even others are begging for Alfa's, Fiats, Seats, etc

It should be no suprise that we see a European model win.

I mean, look how happy we are because were getting the Opels and Holdens. Look at the Saturn brand take off with a great euro inspired lineup(although Aura is a little watered down to the Opel version)

I am not putting American designed or built cars down, we just have a little ways to go.

Right now Europe owns the market with the most vehicles, class, types, engines, features, etc....there are so many options in one model alone its mind boggling....here in the states we have 2-3 options or packages on average.

But even very good cars like the Lexus IS 250 are displaced in this by pretty ordinary offerings from Citroen.
