Re: Holden turns up the heat in SUVs: New Captiva 2.4L 5-seater to take on CRV and RA

I think it would be better with a different name, considering how different the Antara is from the Captiva design-wise. It would also more evident that Holden are competing in two segments.

I dunno, the Chevy Captiva has quite a fetching look to it.

Maybe we could - but the fact they only make left-hookers sort of screws that up pretty good. And sourcing them from America would make them non-competitive pricewise. Plus - no diesel in a market where it's vital - same problem the Hummer faced.

Plus - rear quarter profile is just plain urgleeee. reminds me of that Rondo thing.

Shame there is no 5 seater Diesel, could have appealed to those that don't need 7 seats.

lol. I think they added the dicky seat as standard because too many people were saying "Yeah it's nice, but I'd prefer 7 seats just in case". I know what you are getting at though. I'd like a 5 seater AWD manual Diesel after seeing what the Cruze can do.

Yes, and I understand that they'd probably want to up sell the diesel intenders etc etc.
But, I was pretty impressed with the way the diesel Cappy went on my (short) test drive. A diesel in the (guessing) lighter 5 seater would even be better and I'm thinking that the performance/economy package of the 2.4 may well be underwhelming........
Holden are obviously indicating by introducing the new model that not everybody wants 7 seats......

Add the diesel to the mix and voila!

Details now available on the Holden website.
What does "locally built" 2.4l engine mean?

The 2.4 litre engine is obviously left over stock from before the Port Melbourne four-cylinder plant closed earlier in the year.

And the "old" Captiva (aka Daewoo Winstorm) is now the "Captiva 7".
