Everything else is the same, only the smaller engine and two fewer seats differ.
That plant has gone to god and is no longer making engines. Surely they aren't stupid enough to put such a slug into that heavier body???

Holden's has posted an image (albeit a tiny one) on media.gm.com which confirms the MaXX is going to be the new Captiva 5.

http://media.gm.com/servlet/GatewayS...20&docid=57150

Wouldn't the name Holden Antara be better? I am not a fan of the use of the same nameplate on mostly different cars.

Why? Antara is not known here. Captiva is, and it's recognisably of the same family. Captiva has some cachet amongst those who aspire to SUVs and it means 'something', Even if I think they'd be better off with a good wagon....

Because they are different cars: it would be like Toyota calling the RAV4 the
Kluger 5 and having the larger "actual" Kluger 7-seater one notch above it. Different car = different name.

Let's hope the next Barina won't be called the "Cruze 3".

Re: Holden turns up the heat in SUVs: New Captiva 2.4L 5-seater to take on CRV and RA

Except Toyota refers to them as the RAV 4 and RAV 6. They don't call them different names for the 4 and 6 cylinder versions.

It's like when Coca-Cola Amatil tried to introduce 'new' Coke. They sold cherry-flavoured Cola in America as 'New' Coke and what we got (the old stuff) as 'Classic' Coke until the market unoquivically told them with their wallets that they wanted ordinary old Coca-Cola and nothing else sold as 'Coke'. Hence things like 'Vanilla Coke' and 'Coke Zero'

Antara? No-one here apart from anal auto-bloggers like us knows what it is or was. Most of the market never even heard or registered what the MaXX was. And let's face it - for us it's not a high point. Never underestimate the stupidity of your target audience: tonight at a family dinner a 'relative' was telling me all about the new Commodore with a diesel motor they'd just released. He wouldn't believe that I'd driven it and it definitely ran on petrol.....

Holden PR will be able to produce charts - if they so desire - which prove 'Captiva 5' has the most recognition of any naming variant to introduce a 5-seater I4 poverty-pack version of the V6.

Yes, but unlike the Captiva, the "RAV4" four- and six-cylinder cars are identical sans the powertrains.

No one knew what the Captiva was before 2006 either. When Holden eventually replaces both cars, I would assume the Captiva 7-seater would grow in size substantially to narrow the gap. They would need a new name wouldn't they (for the Captiva 5 that is)? This whole "Captiva 5" / "Captiva" thing is probably just temporary until new generations are introduced. They will probably adopt whatever global name Chevrolet uses.

I saw the new ad for the SIDI Commodore today, a part of it says something like this: "Holden's S.I.D.I. Spark Ignition Direct Injection engines...". Maybe (s)he misheard "direct" as "diesel" or misinterpreted the "D" in SIDI for "diesel". The fact that Holden says on the same ad, "The most important change in the Commodore's history" could also reinforce this mistake; a diesel engine in a Commodore is an important change. Much bigger deal than the hype about SIDI in my opinion.

You and I 'might' like diesel engines and we may even buy one. But there are so many here (vast majority I'd say) in Australia that just cannot entertain the thought of ever owning a diesel and just cannot stand the smell, feel and residue of diesel (at refills). So, IMHO, Holden had to pour resources into refining the petrol engines.

They did so by adopting smart technology and so the GM Wordsmiths thought the best way to reflect the new found outcomes was to call it "SIDI".

Now, throughout my married life, my wife has always said I don't listen or take in all what is said and written (unless it is engines and cars!!!!) So it is highly possible BBDOS CV8's "relly" immediately saw the "D" and the "I" and automatically said 'diesel' and the rest follows.

Holden has to get its majority consumers on-side in this instance hence SIDI - diesel may follow one day!!

Re: Holden turns up the heat in SUVs: New Captiva 2.4L 5-seater to take on CRV and RA

My wife has just started her 3 yr itch where she starts looking at new cars. She started on the Outlander then rav. I have continualy been dropping the word Captiva into the conversation, finally she said that could see herself in one of those. So the pricing on this model might be the one to get it across the line. She doesn't want the AWD as she has no need for it, but she like's the height advantage when driving. We previously owned a 2000 rav4 which she loved until we had to start putting baby capsules and seats into the back, but with the kids older and sitting on their bums space should be ok. I would only consider this if the engine is a SIDI otherwise i will steer her to the diesel.

No. All current badging will continue as normal. And the Captiva 5 wont carry a '5' badge.

They should just combine this into the new Equinox. Its certainly superior to the captiba

On the contrary mbukukanyau, I find the Equinox to look rather ugly. + why is it better than the Captiva? Are you talking just style or something more? I actually like the Antara design better than the regular Cap' too. Now the boxy fresh Terrain; that might be a worthy addition.

Styling, interior execution, and general chevy identity.
